Rare lattegirl10 Posted January 16, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2015 Looked all over for information regarding the casino on the Getaway and couldn't find anything. I always see beautifully written threads, reviews and pictures about everything under the sun and it seems that people omit any reviews about the casino. So I am standing up for all of us cruisers who bring alittle extra money on board to gamble with, but want to know before hand what we will have to "deal" with. Please, Please someone provide some type of review about the slots and tables on the Getaway, ( and not how smoky it is, we get it, people like to smoke in the casino). Who's with me..................................:D:D
cliffd64 Posted January 16, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 16, 2015 (edited) The casino on Getaway is pretty large by cruise ship standards. It is located on Deck 7 midship around the atrium and the two hallways leaving the atrium area as well as an area on the starboard side aft of the atrium. There are slots in the two hallways, as well as behind all the table games. Seems like most of the slots are 1 cent and two cent machines, with a lesser number of higher value slots. Table games are plentiful. Most of the time they can be fairly reasonable too, except for the last night of any cruise when the minimums are all jacked up. Did well on blackjack except for the last night when it was too crowded and I couldn't get a seat. There is a high stakes table area but it was mostly empty the times I was coming through. The staff was very friendly as well. Overall, it seemed like a typical cruise ship casino, only a bit more spread out. I did find it strange that you actually had to walk past slot machines in the hall from the aft elevators all the way to O'Sheehans... Crusin-Suzan Posted January 16, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 16, 2015 It was a good casino. I liked the casino on the Epic best but I like the Getaway overall better. My daughter hit a couple of high jackpots. I was up and down. But I will not play a machine unless I play max!! Staff was nice.

GoAndHaveFun Posted January 17, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 17, 2015 It's really smoky in the casino...jk but no seriously! :) I definitely like the layout of the Getaway casino (along with Epic's casino as well). There are a lot of slot machines and like someone said, they stretch all the way to O'Sheehans (forward) and also to the Noodle Bar (aft). There are 2 counters. One is the cashier and the other is Player's Club service. There are also plenty of table games. If you love coin pusher machines, there are two of those on the Getaway. Who's with me..................................:D:D The casino on the getaway is just lovely. They have all types of table games and slot machines. I especially like it when it is really crowded at night. It's like an orgy of sights smells and sounds. The bells and horns on those machines along with the tick tick tick of that big wheel is fantastic. Those flashing lights are almost blinding but make everything so exciting. I like to snuggle up to a machine, rub the screen, and have a spin. The stale smoke and beer smell makes it feel so dirty. I love it.

Rare lattegirl10 Posted January 17, 2015 Author #12 Share Posted January 17, 2015 Ok, while any of u were there, did u see a lot of people winning? Do you think the slots were relatively loose or super tight????
YYC F/A Posted January 17, 2015 #13 Share Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) NCL has a strong focus on their onboard casinos and the new ships have significant floor space devoted to gaming. Getaway/Breakaway have a vast casino that encircles the 678 Ocean Place or central atrium area and has long arms that run down the sides making it the largest casino at sea IIRC. Unlike other lines, NCL has several specialty table games, including Let It Ride and even Pai Gow (though the latter is usually by request, $25 table minimum, and some have reported refusal by pit bosses to open the table because it is a converted blackjack table - they "flip" the table over). What saddens me is that the push for the players club has largely negated the experience for the "casual gambler". I played $25-$50/hand for 6 hours at Pai Gow on Getaway. In most land based casinos, $50/hand for 6 hours will earn you at least some kind of comps, not too mention free booze while playing. The dealer had to apologise to me that she couldn't even get a pit boss to authorise a free drink anymore because "management took that ability / authorisation away from them" and it's all based on the card now what you can and can't have. If I'm playing $50/hand, sure - I can afford to buy a drink. But the rigidity of things and taking away the ability for staff to even offer a token gesture to players left a sour taste. GoAndHaveFun Posted January 17, 2015 #14 Share Posted January 17, 2015 Ok, while any of u were there, did u see a lot of people winning? Do you think the slots were relatively loose or super tight???? When I was on the Epic, there was this one lady (she sat behind me playing Wheel of Fortune) who hit "2 diamonds and a bar" twice. Each "2 diamond + bar" won her $650 so multiply by 2 and she won $1300 within a span of 2 minutes. I remember she was also telling us about how she won $18,000 from blackjack although she said she won it by mainly betting super big and then was on a roll. She eventually left the Wheel of Fortune machine (she kept playing for a while as she wanted a spin) and when I looked up at the wheel, it stopped at $400. They were loose on our trip. I saw many jackpots being won on the penny slots- I mean 2k and above! We did pretty well- no big jackpots but always came out ahead. McDebbie Posted January 18, 2015 #16 Share Posted January 18, 2015 If I recall, the smoking section was separated by a wall/divider for the slot machines. So as you are going forward over to the right was the smoking area but non smoking was straight ahead. Of course I could have that backward :) but I did not notice much smoke just walking through and had to "hunt" for the smoking area. Good luck! Rare lattegirl10 Posted January 18, 2015 Author #17 Share Posted January 18, 2015 Wow, it would be awesome to hit a jackpot or two on vacation. Any more experiences? We will be saying in March through cas, so I'm hoping they still provide the drink cards in the room as a courtesy.
GoAndHaveFun Posted January 18, 2015 #18 Share Posted January 18, 2015 You (along with everyone in your party) should be receiving drink cards in your room on the 1st day as you booked through CAS. When I was on the Getaway, I played a lot of the coin pusher machines as it really kills time while also not spending a lot of money. There were 2 times in which I asked for drinks (I have the free CAS drink card) and the server nodded his head but then I never got my drink lol. It made me wonder if people playing the coin machines are like the last of their drink priorities despite I always tip. I have noticed some people are very friendly in the casinos. When my parents were playing Texas Hold Em, it was always the same people at the same table so they were able to bond.
Pappion Posted January 18, 2015 #19 Share Posted January 18, 2015 Just got off the Getaway this morning. We were booked through CAS because we are gamblers. There were a lot of tables (Let it ride, roulette, blackjack, 3 card poker, craps, and ultimate texas hold em, and one lonely high priced pai gow table) in a few different pits and tons of slots. None of the slots seemed very loose at all. We didn't see any hand pays ($1200 or more wins) at all while we were there. They had an ok variety of slot games, but none of our real favorites so we didn't play as much as we had on past cruises. The slots seemed tight and we brought quite a chunk of change to play with. It discouraged us from spending as much time as we had in the past in the casino. We don't mind losing when you get the occasional win or bonus game, but there were some nights where no matter what we touched, we didn't hit even a $5 bonus on a penny slot playing 80cents-1.20 a spin. Maybe we just had bad luck. We did ok on the table games, but blackjack can go sour when you have the "new" player who decides staying on 11 and/or splitting 10s is a good idea. Sorry if that is more than you were looking for. If you want specific slot names here are a few: Deal or no deal, china shores, dragon's law, lava loot, sky rider, buffalo, hells bells, sumo kitty. We will be saying in March through cas, so I'm hoping they still provide the drink cards in the room as a courtesy. On EPIC I went down to the casino but my table hadn't opened yet. They opened it & said it would be a few minutes to shuffle the cards. So I went over to a $10 machine in the back, put in $20 and walked away with $1,000. . Rare aubreyc1988 Posted January 18, 2015 #22 Share Posted January 18, 2015 I liked the Casino a lot on the Getaway - nice circle layout, good machines, I don't gamble with a ton of money, I always use the pennies, but we came out ahead by like 150.00 so not bad. I knew someone on the cruise who won like 2k one night on a slot machine, of course she was betting max so...but still, loved the casino, was very nice
