kchesneylover Posted August 27, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 27, 2005 I am going to be on the Carnival Valor Oct 2 - Exotic Western Caribbean. I am a (cautious) snorkeler. I scare easy but I do love the experience. I am going to: BELIZE - Barrier Reef Snorkel at Rendezvous Caye - Is this worth it? Is there an independent operator that does excursions? I do not want to herd with Carnival. What is the best think to do? (for free if I can) ROATAN - Tabayana Beach Snorkel (for free if I can) COZUMEL - Eagle Ray Divers (Yes I am going to risk it - I heard it was beautiful) GRAND CAYMAN - West Bay - Cemetary Beach Snorkel (for free if I can) Because I am such a cautious, scared snorkeler, I am concerned about swimming from the beach and exploring. I think I might want to be dropped off at reefs off shore. On the other hand, I dont really want to witness a whale shark. What are your ideas? Thanks!! North Carolina Cruiser Posted September 19, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 19, 2005 When you get to the shore on Grand Caymans walk approximately 200 yards to your right. There is a little bar with lockers as soon as you step into the water (3 feet deep) the fish are everywhere!!!!!!!! FREE
bobobeagle Posted September 20, 2005 #3 Share Posted September 20, 2005 Just back from Belize. I had previously snorkeled from a boat in GC with no problem even over deep waters and St. Johns, St. Thomas, Bahamas, Cozumel, Costa Maya. Water in Belize is not clear. You could not see what was below you. We were put out in deep water 15-20 ft, no sandbar, no where to stand. Very difficult to swim. I got back on the boat. Waste of money. Not to mention the boat was pretty scary and probably overloaded. We were then taken to a patch of sand from with the snorkeling ws not very good. I'd save my money for GC it's wonderful
