Taxis from EZE airport to BA hotel

Has anyone taken either a Taxi of Manuel Tienda Leon or the Blue & White Taxi Ezezia from the EZE airport to a downtown Buenos Aires Hotel recently? I understand there is a kiosk at the airport that you can book your transportation from in the middle of the lobby. If so, can you tell me the current cost to a downtown Buenos Aires Hotel, and whether you were able to pay in USD or did they require ARS?

We were just there on 1/03/15 and got a taxi to the Sheraton Libertador in town. There is a large kiosk for taxi Ezezia. Just go there and they ask where you want to go, give you a price and you can pay there in USD. Somebody will come and get you then escort you outside where a line of taxis are waiting. He will direct you to your taxi. I think we paid USD around $40, maybe a little more. You don't need ARS. We found we didn't really need ARS during our 3 days in BA.

Thanks so much for your response, I wanted to make sure the taxi EZEIZA booth was still operational.

A couple of weeks ago I was charged 400 pesos for a pvt remise from Taxi Ezesia (in center of terminal lobby , not in the secure area) for the standard ride to downtown. That is about $30 USD at the common blue rate of exchange (see http://www.ambito.com). If you pay in USD cash and pay 40, you are overpaying. Of course, if you have no access to buy pesos at the blue rate before arrival at EZE, your options are limited.

If you offer to pay with a credit card you remove the incentive for the recipient to receive your valuable USD cash...in which case they may offer you more than the official exchange rate per USD, however, the EZE cab companies are so used to this that they probably make no allowances if you pay with USD cash. They will insist upon the official rate. Cab drivers or others in the terminal may gladly pay you 12 per USD - the price today for small bills is 13+. Tipping cabbies is neither required nor expected. There may be a charge for large bags.

You may be right re overpaying. However, there were 7 different taxis transporting our group and everybody paid individually to different agents at the kiosk and we all ended up paying the same amount. Go figure

  • 3 weeks later...

I just returned from the 1/27 sailing of the Journey. I took the Tienda Leon private car service from the airport to my hotel, the Sheraton in BA. I was advised by Argentinian passengers on my flight to do so rather than take a cab. It was slightly more (about $55US) which I was able to charge. The booth is right when you exit customs and they immediately had a driver available. It was very easy and safe (I was a female traveling alone). I would highly recommend Tienda Leon car service.

Regards,

Susan

Northbay: I am posting from BA as we are here for a few days before boarding a ship. The blue and white taxi kiosk is definitely functional. We paid with US dollars, and are finding that if you have US dollars essentially the only time you will use the Argentine peso is when you are buying a bottle of cold water.
