BigB0882 Posted February 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 2, 2015 My husband and I both pronounce it differently. I say Vista as if it were spelled Veesta. I guess to me it should have more of an accent to it. My husband pronounces Vista with a soft i, most like it is spelled. Silly question but it is really bothering me now. mrsfuzzmo Posted September 17, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 17, 2015 (edited) I think it will depend on your accent. The word VISTA (as I imagine they have chosen it) reads like this: vis•ta (ˈvɪs tə) n., pl. -tas. 1. a view or prospect, esp. one seen through a long, narrow passage, as between rows of trees or houses. 2. a far-reaching mental view. So, soft i. Now if I pronounced Sister like Seester, (some dialects, including hispanic) would pronounce it differently. Here in the midwest, with the ugly dialect we have.....its Vista. Like Mist. If some of the PVPs at Carnival have accents different than mine, why yes, they could definitely be pronouncing it differently. bonvoyagebites Posted September 19, 2015 #11 Share Posted September 19, 2015 I suppose the safe bet is to go with what feels right. If you go to the UK or Australia, a Mazda is pronounced Mazz-duh, in the US it is usualy pronounced MAHZ-duh. I would assume that the ship has an english Viss-tuh pronunciation, as posited by the previous posters, but I also don't imagine there is much harm is saying it "wrong" .. whichever way that may be.. :) Either way - I will be there 03JUN16... can't wait. bakersdozen12 Posted October 4, 2015 #12 Share Posted October 4, 2015 Same way you would pronounce Microsoft Vista. It's not Microsoft Veesta. Sorry, lol. Your hubby is right. Just this once. [emoji6]
cruiseclues Posted October 8, 2015 #13 Share Posted October 8, 2015 Since Carnival does a fair job with their cruise ship name...and generally chooses names which are well known to just about everyone and also the name in this case is as much for the definition as well. The Definition of vista is related to view... :):):):)
