Melissa at Mohair Meadows Posted February 12, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2015 We'll be on the Equinox soon with stops in Costa Rica and Colombia. Can someone tell me the best coffee brands to buy for each stop? I've heard buying coffee in the grocery stores can be as good as in the tourist locations, and lots cheaper. :D Melissa
Smurfette76 Posted February 12, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2015 We honeymooned in Costa Rica and absolutely loved it! Their coffee is exceptional! One of the popular brands with tourists is Cafe Britt. While very good, it is often "turista" priced (more expensive). Locals told us to forego Britt and buy more reasonably priced Cafe Rey. We stocked up and are glad we took their advice. I wish I could brew some now but we ran out ages ago. I can't recall how much Cafe Rey cost but it was significantly less than the Britt and just as good. And yes, grocery stores offer the best pricing. Have a great cruise. As the Costa Ricans say, "Pura Vida"! :D
Kwenz Posted February 12, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 12, 2015 I am a huge fan of Cafe Brita Costa Rica dark roast. It can be ordered online also and if you buy a case during one of their sales it is quite a bit lower in cost than Starbucks.
pammi44 Posted February 12, 2015 #4 Share Posted February 12, 2015 Absolutely love Britt dark roast too. Prices in grocery stores in Costa Rica were good. The airport had a huge Cafe Britt store (their candy is fabulous), not that you will be at the airport. I mail order it from Britt and yes it is a bit less expensive than Starbucks (if you can get in on a free shipping promo). Have fun!
