For the benefit of all visitors to Singapore during this Chinese New Year period, be aware that the River Hong Bao 2015 festivities are ongoing from 17 Feb to 28 Feb 2015. This event is held every year.

Admission is free.

 

 

How to get there - The best way to get there is via public transport. Here is the map. You can walk there from City Hall, Promenade or Esplanade MRT stations.

With Chinese New Year around the corner, we have been making and stocking up on Chinese New Year goodies!

As part of Chinese New Year 2015 festivities, there will be a street light up at Chinatown.

 

 

The following description is taken from the Singapore Tourism Board website.

 

"​​​Chinatown's Chinese New Year celebrations this year will incorporate SG50 elements. Themed "Abundance of Joy & Prosperity 三阳开泰牛车水 五福临门迎新岁", and organised by the Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng Citizens' Consultative Committee, this predominantly Chinese enclave will spring to life with 338 goat-shaped lanterns – the most number of zodiac lanterns ever made. Together with 1,500 glistening gold coin lanterns, they take centre stage in lighting up the precinct from 31 January to 19 March 2015.

 

"Partnering young talents from the Singapore University of Technology and Design for the fourth time, the light-up will also see 28 of the goat-shaped lanterns mimic the different movements of these gentle animals along the centre divider of New Bridge Road and Eu Tong Sen Street."

 

Why goat shaped lanterns? This is the year of the Goat.

Thanks for the comment! Yes, plenty of laughter. Good time for family bonding. I guess that is the most important aspect of the Lunar New Year celebrations.
