Tonight is Presidents Menu in the main dinning room but we have another “free” dinner at Cagney’s.

Hi Shoreguy,

Can you explain how you're receiving free dinners at Cagney's? And so many of them! Is this just something they're offering for your cruise or will all of the Jewel cruises during the Inaugural year offer this perk?

Thanks and enjoy the rest of your trip!

.........Thank you for all your blogs regarding the Jewel. Any time we have cruise questions, we say, "See what Shoreguy is saying". You have so much good information posted. A question if you could answer me? Will be sailing on the Jewel in November heading for the Eastern Caribbean. Does the Jewel have the Sports-A-Float Program as other NCL ships have had? The one we are interested in would be the 20mile or so jogging on the ship for the week that the jogger would track for the week? One cruise they gave away shirts, but thats not a concern, looking for this info so our granddaughter can take it back to school and get some gym credit.

Thanks for the help, enjoy the rest of your cruise. Can't wait to read your final reviews.

I'm not shoreguy, but from what I understand this is being offered on the ship on a trial basis. Lat. members w/several cruises under their belt (not all Lat. members) are receiving this invitation for certain nights; I believe the 1st nt is included.

shoreguy might know if there are any other specials such as "early bird" that they sometimes have on the Dawn at the Asian restaurant. Anything like that with Chin Chin this cruise?

Oh, I see. I wonder if my family and I will be able to take advantage of this offer. We're sailing on the Jewel in 2006 and are Latitutes members.

During the Jewel's Baltic cruise we received free meals for any specialty venue on the first 4 nights. We also could have breakfast and lunch at Cagneys most days. I am not sure why but we sure enjoyed.

Shoreguy, next time you see Ruth and Klaus tell them Todd from 9504 misses them!!

Strange about your shower. Ours leaked like crazy too.

Enjoy the rest of your cruise and thanks for the updates.

I certainly hope the Jewel continues offering select free meals at Cagneys. I've never eaten at a specialty restaurant since the food in the main dining rooms was always satisfactory. This gives me something to look forward to! :D

Many thanks for your running commentary, shoreguy, and for the pix as well. Every word you write just makes us look forward that much more to our upcoming Jewel cruises in November and January. You certainly do deserve any comps that NCL can offer to you. You ought to be named Honorary Master of the Jewel for all your good work as their #1 spokesperson! In fact, you're better than the whole darned Promotion and Customer Service Departments at NCL put together.:)

When we were on the Baltiuc, we had invitations (letter) for free dinners as well. I believe these were only for those in the Garden Villa and probably the Courtyard Villas. It's possible they were extended to Owner's suites as well.

Although we received the generous invitations, we ate elsewhere mostly due to the fact everyone was doing their own thing all the time.

Late night update (Sunday am)

Dinner for 26 is under control – 9 pm Monday in Tsar’s. – Thanks to Ruth.

Cagney’s – exceptional as always

Those of you who cruise on the Jewel in the near future we see many pictures from the members. Some of the pictures that have been posted by members are part of the digital ship tour. I had sent the same links posted hear to the ship a few weeks ago and at the CC meet and greet given the staff a couple of CDs with the pictures the members had captured.

I tried to attend the session but it was standing room only so we only stayed a few minutes. From what I head from many others they thanked me and Cruise Critic for the pictures they used. They should have thanked those that captured them. They used some of Sailing Dutchman’s pictures as well as taking the webshots that Globaliser posted. They created almost a time lapse of the ship being built from those webshots.

The morning brings St. John. All passengers have to clear customs tomorrow afternoon between 4 and 5 pm since our first US port is Newport.

I have one restaurant remaining to complete the sweep. That would be Azura. I have not had a meal I did not enjoy. That is the result of choices. The other day for lunch the choices for lunch in the main dinning room offered nothing we wanted. As I recall it was sweet and sour grouper, Ox tail soup, and something with goat cheese. No problem we ended up at the Blue Lagoon for fish and chips.

The seas today were like glass. Many took the opportunity to lay out by the pool. A bit cool but sunny.

Welcome to beautiful St. John – 55+ mph winds and 18 foot seas. – Here comes the bit**ing. The captain just cancelled the port. Do you think we will all get a free cruise?

We now get 4 sea days in a row. They have extended out time in Newport to a full day adding 5 hours.

No option for the ship – the pilots are not operating.

Perhaps I can work on the closet story today….

Who could complain about an extra day onboard the Jewel – Should be great as long as I stay out of the casino -

What? A missed port? (gasp). I think all the passengers should get TWO free cruises, and if they won't pony up I think you should hole-up in the defective closet until they do! Imagine, missing a port because the seas and wind are too strong!

Great to see you're enjoying yourselves, and really glad Ruth was able to sew up the dinner arrangements for you! Keep the news reports coming - we're loving this.

The Closet

They have laid this room out well for the HC traveler. Lots of open space. They do need to solve a couple of issues. I shared the shower issue. I think this would be a bigger problem for those that need this cabin. I can run around and place towels and mop up the water with little effort.

The closet is set up with about a 30 inch rod on a hinged system with a handle allowing someone in a chair to pull it down 90 degrees for easy access to hanging cloths. That hinge system needs some work. It is not strong enough if you have much hanging on it. When it comes down it forces open the two 30 inch closet doors making access to the cabin door imposible.

Got the picture – We leave Ireland and in the middle of the night hit some seas that cause the ship to roll a little. 4 am bam – closet doors slam open all the cloths hit the floor. I get up put everything back on the rod and reset the hinge. 4:30 repeat above, 4:45 repeat above, 5:15 repeat above.

5:30 repeat and make emergency repairs after picking up almost all my cloths 5 times to the sound of every four letter word – Tried wedging hangers, shoes, Freestyle papers into the hinge. I finally found the plastic piece that was suppose to hold up the rod and wedged it in. Back to sleep at 6:30.

Attached is a picture of the solution that the carpenter came up with later in the day. Keep in mind if this were to fall while I was out of the cabin there would be no may to open the door to get back in.

The shoreguy sky hook…lol

In addition all cabins should get a $300 credit. But that's not fair to people who paid more (IE: suites). Why should those lowlifes ;) (of which I would be one) in standard cabins get the same that those in suites do?

We need new compensation schedules:

inside cabin $0.50 credit per person

std outside: $1.00 credit per person

balcony cabin: $50.00 credit per person + $300 per cabin

Junior Suite: $300 per person + $500 per cabin

All other suites: $1000 per person + $1000 per cabin + All free meals in premium dining rooms the remainder of the cruise + Free booze the remainder of the cruise + 1 hour on the bridge as captain of the ship + the 2 free cruises Pepper entered

What's fair is fair ;)

Sorry to hear about your cancelled port. Another day onboard the Jewel can't be all bad.

I'm sorry about the closet problem. Seems like there is a great difference between the HC AE and the regular AE Penthouse suite. We did have the long single rod in our closet but not hindged to pull down. Our closet had two sets of doors that opened to the dressing area and to the in cabin hallway toward the door. I can see the horror of your hallway closet being stuck open with the clothes all over the floor. Lucky it didn't happen while you were outside the room, because the outside door does swing open past the closet door. I do think they should name the fix the Shoreguy sky hook.

Enjoy your day onboard.

Look forward to the next sea day report.

Quick update from sea day four in a row. They were able to get updated freestyles out by 11 am. Can you all believe it they were able to add an additional Art Auction and Bingo game…lol.

Better day today – the temperature has exceeded the wind speed..lol . Current temperature 68 F with only 35 knot winds. For the first day in 4 we are able to enjoy the aft facing balcony.

The show last night was the illusion of Ricochet – entertaining but not very exciting – I did get in a short nap. Planned on dinner last night in Azura – checked out the menu and headed for the Bistro.

Dinner tonight for 28 CC members in Tsars.

Almost live from 9672…….

Shoreguy: It is nice to read today's report. An extra session of bingo sounds like heaven to me. Expensive as bingo is, I am a bit of a fanatic to playing that game.

Nice picture of the room. How did you get the two separate beds? When you look up info on that room, it is listed as a queen bed. I would like to know because I often take friends or my children with me on cruises and I have been disappointed that I the only Penthouse suite I can get is the AB, so that we have separate beds. I am booked into the A3 on the Jewel in November with my sister so that we can have separate beds and be in a courtyard villa room.

Enjoy your day in Newport.
