pilotsugar Posted September 3, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 3, 2005 I Was Wondering If This Is A Nice Hotel For A Pre-cruise Stay. Is There A Free Shuttele To The Cruiseport And From The Airport? Is There Anywhere To Eat Close To The Hotel? I Would Like To Have Peoples Opinions On This Hotel. Is It Very Close To Port Everglades In Case We Have To Get A Taxi There? Thank You For Any Info You Can Give Me. Jill
TrentS Posted September 3, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 3, 2005 Some on here like it, but the neighborhood isn't the safest, and IMO there are better budget hotels to stay at that are closer to the port, and have many more things to do, and places to eat and shop around them. I prefer the SE17th Street area which is just outside the entrance to the port, closer to the airport, and a much nicer, safer area that has a large number of restaurants, nice new grocery/drug/liquor stores, as well as everything else you could possibly want that can you can easily and safely walk to, as well as walk to the Water Taxi. If you want a budget hotel I would recommend the Holiday Inn Express on SE 17th Street... http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/1/en/hd/fllcc Or Extended Stay America is another budget hotel next door... http://www.extendedstayamerica.com/hotels/fort-lauderdale-convention-center-marina.html AmeriSuites is also in the same area... http://amerisuites.com/reservations/locationdetail.asp?facid=3929 AmeriSuites is cheaper on Priceline, or one of the discount hotel sites such as Valuetrips... http://www.valuetrips.com/AMS/FL/F17.htm Other more expensive hotels in the area are Renaissance... http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/FLLBR Marina Marriott... http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/FLLFL Embassy Suites... http://www.embassysuites.com/en/es/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=FLLSOES
LMCAT123 Posted September 4, 2005 #3 Share Posted September 4, 2005 We stayed here in April. I think there are dozens of comments about this hotel on these boards. It was perfectly fine for an overnight stay. Our room was comfortable and included microwave, fridge, iron/ironing board and good sized bathroom. The staff was polite and the included breakfast was more then adequate. Free internet service in the lobby too. The hotel has free shuttles to and from a/p and ship. They have pink flamingos on the roof of vans and are easy to spot. We did take a taxi to the hotel from the a/p and it cost about $10 plus tip. It depends on traffic/time of day what it will cost. There are no "real restuarants" in immediate neighborhood - that did not bother us, we had flown in from AZ and had been up very early to do so, we were not up to fancy eating anyway :-) There is a strip mall across the street, it is not a fancy one but does have a Winn-Dixie grocery store. We got sandwiches at their deli and brought them back to our room. There is a Wendy's and a McDonald's and I think I saw a Chinese restuarant but am not positive. We just needed an overnight place that did not cost a small fortune and it worked well for us. We did not wander around the neighborhood. It was a typical Hampton Inn.
