1island2go Posted March 9, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 9, 2015 We have never cruised before or been to Europe. We are taking the Epic out of Rome and I have a few questions for those of you that have gone out of Rome and cruised a lot. Here goes...love this board and thanks in advance... 1. How early would you get to port to board the ship and what determines your boarding group? 2. Read somewhere on one of the posts...you can buy alcohol after security and as boarding to consume in your room...is this offered in Rome sailings also? 3. It is our first cruise ever. Our 30th anniversary on our day at sea. Any suggestions of things we can request to make it special? Not sure what cruise lines offer. Thanks in advance!:)
Rare KeithJenner Posted March 9, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 9, 2015 Regarding buying alcohol after security, I wonder whether you are getting mixed up with Barcelona. There is a shop after security there and sometimes (certainly not always), they don't check your bags between the shop and boarding. I'm not aware of anything similar in Rome, but it is possible. vondofife Posted March 9, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 9, 2015 We arrived at the port in Rome at 12 noon and as soon as we had checked in and gone through security, we were allowed to board straight away and our cabin was ready. Only about 300 people boarded in Rome when we cruised (Epic - October 2014) so there were no queues at check in. There was no where at the terminal for buying alcohol. When we boarded, the ship was really quiet and my son got to ride on the slides continuously, as there were no queues.
Hikini Posted March 9, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 9, 2015 (edited) Congratulations on your 30 years of marriage. What a fantastic way to celebrate! We will celebrate 32 this year. (Remember when silver wedding anniversaries and beyond, were OLD couples?!) You can go to the front desk at some point and tell them you are celebrating your anniversary and they will give you a card that you fill out and then hand to the host/hostess when you go to the MDR the evening you are celebrating. At the dessert time of your meal, they will bring out a small but very good cake and sing "Let me call you sweetheart." Beware: most of the waiters are not singers and shouldn't quit their day jobs! :D But they enjoy bringing this bit of happiness to your special day. The small cake has been no extra charge whenever we have done it, for anniversary or birthday. You can, however, get a more elaborate version if you choose, for pay, but we think the cake they bring is just good enough. Enjoy!
