CruzieSue Posted March 16, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 16, 2015 What is the ONE thing you would highly recommend as a must-see or must-do in Nassau. We will be there next week. Thanks!
Donny-Joe Posted March 16, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 16, 2015 There's nothing we've seen that I would call a "must-see." It really depends on what you like. Certainly Atlantis is pretty unique. It's worth visiting even if you just walk around in the public areas (which is basically the Coral Towers lobby, the shops near the Coral Towers, and the casino). Unless you buy a day pass, or love to gamble, it's not a full day excursion. And while it's kind of amazing, especially the aquarium (The Dig), it's a very expensive day pass. If you want to make a day on Paradise Island, you could visit the free part of Atlantis (and maybe get an aquarium pass), go have lunch at the One & Only Club, and walk around in the Versailles Gardens and Cloisters after lunch, with maybe a side trip to the Marina Village shopping area. That would be a pleasant day. Going the other way from the cruise terminal, we enjoyed Ardastra Gardens quite a bit, but it is small and it's not nearly as impressive as larger fancier zoos and gardens in the states, so hardly a "must-see". On the other hand, we saw our first black swans there, and fed Lorys, and saw the famous marching flamingos show, which was silly but kind of a hoot. The Bahamas tourism is primarily oriented around beaches, resorts, and shopping, none of which are incredibly unique or must-do. But there's plenty of fun to be had; read this forum and trip advisor for lots of ideas.
cruiseapril Posted March 17, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 17, 2015 (edited) One year we took a taxi over to Atlantis to the casino and Marina Village where all the huge yachts are moored. We spent about 2 hours there, then went back to the ship for an early lunch. (A previous year, we went to the aquarium at Atlantis and enjoyed that- there is a fee.) After lunch, we took a van cab to the Sheraton (now Melia) on Cable Beach and spent the afternoon at the big pools and beach. Good day. We have also been to Ardastra Gardens which is a good alternative to a beach excursion. Marching Flamingos fun to see.
