Differences Between RCI and Carnival?

DW and I have booked our second cruise, this time on the Dream out of NOLA next January. Our first ever cruise was also out of NOLA on the Serenade this past February. I was wondering if any would have opinions on what differences we will note between Royal Caribbean and Carnival? One difference I've noticed from some posted Fun Times from previous Dream cruises is that making calls to the states using the phone in your room is only $1.99 per minute. Is that true? On the Serenade I think it was over $7 a minute. If this is true, I'm going to love Carnival....
