Thank you for the quick reply Craig. The info is most useful! We are arriving at Sants train station and don't want to have to go back there is we leave luggage.

Now to figure out it we can take a bus to the port from the train station!

Just wanted to inform you that taking taxi in Barcelona is NOT expensive, so that is a good option....

If you really wanted to use public transport, you could use the L3 metro from Sants Estació to Drassanes, and then change onto the port bus at the Columbus monument, but frankly a taxi is easier.

How are the Taxi fare prices calculated in Barcelona? Are the taxi fares calculated by person or by taxi? What are the supplements?

A: All taxi fares are calculated by taxi. The only exception is for van taxis where there is an additional supplement of €2.10 per person above 4 passengers. The majority of Barcelona official taxis (including van taxis) are licensed to carry a maximum of 4 passengers. However some van taxis have a special license to carry up to 6 passengers. If you require a taxi that can carry 6 passengers it is best to call a taxi firm directly to request one. Alternatively at the airport you can request the taxi attendant to find you a taxi with a license of 6 passengers. You may have a longer wait since only around 10% of taxis are licensed to carry 6 passengers.

The approximate rate for Barcelona taxis is €1.03 / km (from 08:00 - 20:00) and €1.30 / km (from 20:00 - 08:00).

There is a minimum fee of €2.10 when you get in the cab.

Supplements to the final meter price are added due to the following factors.

1. BCN airport pick up or drop off ( €4.20 ) with a minimum possible fare of €20.00.

2. pick up or drop off at the Barcelona Cruise terminal ( €4.20 ).

4. pickup or drop off at a transport station e.g. Estacio Sants rail station, Franca station, or Nord bus station. (€2.10).

All taxis have a minimum fare of €7.00.

There is no additional charge for a passengers carrying bags either in the cab or in the boot.

7k from station to port, 20E without tip.

Public transport: metro about 2E and 2-3 for bus from Columbus statue to port.

25E (20E plus tip) vs 4-5E or 10E if 2 people are your options. Might depend on luggage.

We disembarked Barcelona to Columbus statue and it cost us 30E. Public transport does not start until 8am so walking, taxi or NCL bus were only options. Did not know about the early morning surcharge, so learn from us and make sure you know all the surcharges.

I was wondering this myself.

So to clarify can you board & leave your hand luggage in the cabin and then go back ashore ?

As others have said hold luggage gets checked same as an airport. Hand luggage depends a lot on your room steward. Even if he's making your cabin up often a quick chat and maybe some paper transfer :D and I've been able to go in, go to the safe programme a code and drop stuff in. Ensure you have photo ID with you as well as your cruise card though before you get off.

Oh and a couple of warnings.

If you are out and about in Barcelona with hand luggage and all your money/cards/valuables (which I strongly recommend you don't) split it up. Don't have everything in his wallet or her handbag. I've been to Barcelona a dozen times and EVERY time there has been a cruiser mugged, cards and cash nicked. If you are paying cash for onboard deposit it at the cash deck at check-in before you go wandering the city. Keep wallets in zipped pickets. Attach little bells to purses..

Single cruiser is correct,

especially about the pick pockets, happened on every cruise we have been on, airport, buses, packed trains and the RAMBLES are the worst.

There is now a flat rate taxi fare from/to the airport of 39 euro.

At the dock there is a blue bus that was 2 euro return to the columbus statue at the bottom of the Rambles and where the Hop on Hop off bus is.

trouble is this service will be packed if there are a lot of ships in.

Remenber you have to be onboard before the muster drill which was 4 30pm on Spirit.

Duty free shop is after security if it is open

hope it helps j
