tlsearay Posted April 10, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 10, 2015 We have an 8 p.m. flight out of Hobby airport after our cruise on the Magic. We usually book an excursion through Carnival, but they do not offer anything out of Galveston. We will not have a car and there will be about 8 of us. Any ideas on things to do? sillychicky Posted April 10, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 10, 2015 My mother-in-law just went on a cruise out of Galveston and had a 5:30pm flight. She could not check her bags until 4 hours before so she ended up sitting with her luggage at the airport with nothing to do. Me and my best friend have an 8pm flight out of Hobby in May and I was looking at car rentals so we could see the pier in Galveston but my mother-in-law said it really wasn't very exciting plus reviews say it isn't safe to leave any luggage in a car. I decided that instead, we'll rent a room at the Doubletree/Hilton near Hobby for the day and use the carnival shuttle back to Galveston since it's the cheapest option. Getting a room will allow us to nap, lounge by the pool etc and they have an on site restuarant, bar and a nice pool area. Plus, our luggage will be safe and they have a free local shuttle if we wanted to explore the local area a little. There IS a pier at Galveston and it's a cute little beach town but the hotels (for luggage storage) are much more expensive and you'd have to figure out transportation later in the day as well. Let me know what you come up with, I'm open to suggestions. This was just the best option for us with the later flight and nowhere to put our luggage! hfj17002 Posted April 10, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 10, 2015 Duck tours in Galveston was fun the 1st time we went to galveston. Moody Gardens was ok, they have a restaurant too. We did these with our kids along with schlitterbahn & beach time & had a good time.

tlsearay Posted April 19, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted April 19, 2015 (Let me know what you come up with, I'm open to suggestions. This was just the best option for us with the later flight and nowhere to put our luggage!) So far, we too, have booked a couple of room near Hobby airport and figure we can store luggage and hang by the pool of in the hotel. It has to be better than spending hours at the airport. We are still working on the transportation from the airport before the cruise and to Galveston after. We are flying in the day before. This is so much more difficult than cruising out of Ft. Lauderdale or Miami.
hamp65 Posted April 26, 2015 #6 Share Posted April 26, 2015 We have a late flight, too! I almost think it's better to just change our flight to the next morning. But I really don't want to do that! What about any day tours? There are plenty of restaurants on the beach, but we don't want to walk around with luggage.
