Hey there,

My husband and I are going to take a fifth year anniversary cruise in 2016 and we are looking now to decide the trip we want.

We had a question for the public to see if we could get some advice.

as it is our big 5 year anniversary we were going to treat ourselves to a suite.

What we are trying to decide is whether or not it would be wiser financially to pay full price to go ahead and book the suite in advance knowing it would be reserved for us, or to book a balcony and upgrade to a suite near the trip date.

has anyone upgraded from a balcony to a suite? and can you share the cost of that upgrade to help us determine if it is a worthwhile gamble?

thanks for the advice!!!!

Congratulations on your upcoming 5th!

We just booked our cruise for our 5th anniversary! We upgraded from a balcony to an aft extended balcony. So not a suite, but it was like $100 or so more? Not sure when you plan to cruise but we have seen several price drops for our cruise along with a recent promotion offering us $50 obc. I would say book the balcony and wait for a price you are comfortable with, but don't wait too long as they can quickly sell out on popular sailings!

For our Miracle cruise, we booked an inside cabin with French doors with an obstructed view of lifeboats. There was a price drop for $136 with an upgrade to an extended balcony cabin. Just yesterday, a premium balcony cabin for 4 became available for an additional $450 total. From what I understand, it's like having an ocean suite without the ocean suite price. This will be a birthday surprise for hubby!

I think it depends on what type of suite you have your eyes on. For example, the aft wrap suites on the Spirit class ships usually sell out way in advance. So if you want a more popular type of suite, I would book what you want to begin with to avoid being disappointed.
