Carnival Glory April 18-25- Review including lots of pictures!

The only part of the day that sucked was getting the tender back. We packed up at 230 as we were all baked. Despite frequent reapplications of sunscreen we all got burned. The line for the tender wrapped all the way around the cruise centre. When you are hot and tired, this is not a fun way to end the day. It seemed like it took forever to get to the boat. Then when it was time to unload at the ship it took forever to get all the people off and through security.

 

However, it was well worth it. I would love to go back. I don't think any beach I ever visit again in my life will measure up to Half Moon Cay. It is definitely paradise.

There are at least 2 room stewards named Wayon on the Glory. The one that did the towel animal demonstration was named Wayan as we'll. I'm thinking Wayan is a common name in their culture!

I just noticed that it says clam shells are $19.99. This must be an outdated price list (I found it online before we went) as we definitely payed $24.99 each for them

Despite being exhausted and baked, we made it to dinner in the dining room.

Some of tonight's dinner items included veal parmigan, some kind of beef thing, Baked Ziti,

After dinner, we went to big screen trivia. The theme was famous landmarks.

 

Hasbro The Game Show Part 1 was next. This was our first encounter with Adam, the Cruise Director. He was the host of the show. We also got to see Hugo, who is the Assistant Cruise Director.

 

I didn't really like or dislike Adam, if that makes any sense! He does his job well. My husband felt that Adam was a bit arrogant and Hugo's english wasn't good enough for him to be an assistant cruise director. However, you should know my husband is a very critical person :). He liked Gentry and Puff though...go figure. A Man likes the women better than the men. Not surprising.

 

Personally, I liked Hugo better than Adam. I found him entertaining, funny and down to earth. He reminded a bit of Matt Leblanc (who isn't Mexican but thats who he reminded me of). I think I recall him saying he was new at being assistant cruise director.

 

Anyways...the Hasbro Game Show was entertaining. My 11 year old desperately wanted to get picked but Adam seemed to pick really small children who could barely play the game which didn't make a lot of sense. Why pick a 3 year old to play Scattergories?

After the Hasbro Game Show, we stayed for the Gender Showdown in the Amber Palace.

 

You see, on our first cruise we were really green. We missed all kinds of stuff cause we didn't look at the funtimes much (yep newbies we were). So this time we vowed not to miss anything and I don't think we did. I should clarify, we didn't miss anything that we wanted to see or do.

 

I should pipe in here about the smoking as it seems an appropriate place in my review. There were several activities (some trivia, an 80s song trivia/event and a few other fun things) that I would have liked to attend. However, they were being held on the Casino Stage. If cigarette smoke is bothersome to you (as it is to me) you will not want to spend any time at the Casino Stage. Very smoky. In fact that whole area of the Promenade deck is so bad that my 11 year old (who hates cigarette smoke) would pull his shirt up over his nose until we were through.

 

I do like the casino. However, I could only stay for short periods of time. Sometimes the smoke wasn't too bad but other times it was unbearable.

 

While I'm on the topic, I will say that I never once smelled cigarette smoke on my balcony until the last morning when we were coming into Miami.

 

One last rant about the smokers. I noticed them smoking in places they weren't supposed to (on the lido deck) and lots of carnival employees including a security guard walked by and didn't say a word.

The Gender Showdown was pretty funny. They made all the women sit on one side of the theater and all the men on the other. Then they picked people from the audience to perform various tasks on stage. The characters that they selected from the audience made the show. Some people are very entertaining.

Another thing that we never did on our first cruise was order room service. So on this one we ordered it almost every night. On this night after Half Moon Cay we were very tired after the long hot day at the beach. We are not old but we aren't the type to stay out half the night drinking and dancing in the bars. Its just not our thing. And thats ok. When you are on a cruise you do what you want to do.

 

So getting back to the topic of room service. We ordered some sandwiches and desserts. I was already tucked into bed where I planned to eat my snack. My husband answered the door. It was a woman delivering the food. She saw that we were in for the night and said "Why are you in your cabin so early? You should be up on deck having fun!" I thought that was a very rude thing to say. Its none of her business what we do. And it was after 10 oclock. Its not like it was 8oclock.

 

The room service food is ok. Glory doesn't have the new items yet. Just a few sandwiches, salads and desserts. The sandwich comes with chips.

A homeless man outside asked us for some change. We are small town folks from Canada so we are not used to this!

 

 

Nice review! So yeah, we're not usually confronted with homeless people either...last time we were in miami we stopped at the shell station right across from the denny's on A1A...I found a dollar bill on the way in and picked it up....On the way out there was a homeless dude asking for money, so I gave him the dollar. he was pretty stoked. We're from northern MI, so we're not all that far from you, considering....Sure is a different world down there though.

Yes, they always do if they are getting married in Miami (or any home port). They usually have the reception right after and still have to attend muster drill. The people not going on the cruise also have to get off before departure.

 

This. My wife and I were married the ship. it was pretty neat. definitely a fun experience...we had a few guests that had to depart obviously, but they thought it was cool to be on the ship for a little while...

Woke up Monday morning to another beautiful, sunny day! We weren't scheduled to dock until 11am in Grand Turk.

 

Getting a balcony cabin was a great thing for me. I shared a cabin with my husband and 13 year old son. They are not early risers. I am though. Especially when I am away from home I usually wake about between 5-6 and want to get up. The balcony gave me a place to go. I really enjoyed the quiet time out there with just me, my camera, the water and the sunrise.

 

Everyone morning, the further south we got, the earlier the sun came up.

My son went to play Giant Jenga in the lobby on this morning. Puff brought it but another adult cruiser and my son played together until some smaller children came along. It was very challenging as the ship was rocking. I noticed on this cruise that I could feel the ship gently rocking most of the time. On my first cruise to Western, you didn't even know you were on a ship a lot of the time. It wasn't rough seas just continuous motion. Strangely, for the first couple days after coming home I still felt like I was rocking sometimes! I'm not crazy really. My mother said she experienced the same thing.
