REVIEW CARNIVAL PRIDE April 2015

This was our 4th time on the Pride and the first with the 2.0 upgrades. Loved most of the upgrades- sad to see some of the cost cutting but understand as we are stockholders too.. We spent a lot of time in Red Frog pub. The Blue Iguana was great for breakfast. And don’t even ask how many Guys burgers we devoured. This cruise --our whole point was to eat -read-sleep repeat. And the casino is very smoky- more than ever before ---folks not playing just hanging and smoking.

One thing about the Pride is she is a noisy vibrating ship. So if you learn anything from this review --if noise and rockin & rollin is not your thing book to the front mid ships.

Day one-We self parked in the past it was a long process but this time they came out and took credit cards and cash payment while we waited to enter. NICE! So getting into the lot easy Arrived at 10 moved around to luggage by 11:15. Sat in the terminal. On board by 12:30. No problem with rum runners. Luggage arrived before sailway.

Things we noticed right away brighter lighting thu out the ship. Less grouping of chairs in hallways. Cheaper pens in the room. Better control of income passengers no jam up. This was also true in debarking. Nice to have bottle of water in the cabin. Did not miss the terrible chocolate on the pillows.

It was a cool sail way not unusual for Baltimore. Left about 5:30 don’t know way so late, maybe because she came in hour late that morning. Ft McHenry is on the Port side. Under the key bridge about 45 minutes later --so cool –we love bridges! Other bridges --bay bridge around 7:30 ---bay bridge-tunnel 1:30am yes we were still up!

Welcome aboard show is no longer Fun fun Fun with dancers but good with the audience partition and comedians.

Day 2- too cold to sit on the balcony-not usual for spring out of Balto. We spent a lot of time in the Red Frog pub the band there Bahama Mamas one of the best. We had our Cruise Critic M&G very nice. They did a good job. There were also 2 slot pulls planned but the casino was so smoky I could stay and play.

Day 3 sea day- weather so much better. We joined the Dr Seusss a palooza prarade and read a long. Well done. The new shows are hooky, campy fun. And nice change.

Day 4 Grand Turk -walked down to Jack shack. Pros free wifi at the bar, better beach softer sand, topher the dog. Cheap beer. Cons- vulgar music don’t take the kids, umbrella too small to cover both loungers. Loungers not comfortable.

Day 5- Half Moon Cay- they now have bigger tenders 400+ people at a time less time waiting-- especially on the way back not standing in the hot sun.. We got a clam shell once on the beach. I think this is something that could be done better. Lots of folks think they are free and then have to hike back to the beach booth to pay. So go to beach booth pay get your clamshell. But look careful Our had a broken top support and we spent time when the wind blew putting it back up. the beach crew did a good job watching the beach. When we saw a fin and a black shadow in the water they went right in a boat an spooked the “shark” way. Yep it was a shark.

Day 6- Freeport-Not much of a port. No bargains to be had on the junk on the tables. We hit Senior Frogs -always fun then over to fat Tuesday where with a drink free wifi. Past cruisers party nice- drinks were strong. That night we did dive-in movies and even thu you can get a blanket bring warm clothes and extra blanket if you have them-it cold out there. The movie was great! not so great when the movie is over you have to return the blankets-- the line was terrible long to return. I mean over 45 min. Should be a better way many 2 people checkin names off? Also after the movie finished-they just replayed it so if you miss the beginning just hang and watch again.

Day 7- sea day- just a good day to hang-eat -read-sleep repeat. Then packing .

Debarking- we did the self assist. By far one of the easier. I saw no one hanging the lobby or hallways. I saw the crew ask folks to go to lounges to wait. So the hallways were free and clear when it was our time to move. We were in the Red Frog pub. And off the ship by 9:30 a new record.

Thoughts-One of the most fun! Love the 2.0 upgrades. Loved dive-in movies-- Pride is she is a noisy vibrating ship. if noise and rockin and rollin is not your thing --book to the front mid ships. Like the larger tender in HMC. Didn’t like the smoky in the casino.

You know, we asked the people walking along the beach area in HMC if they were acting as lifeguards. He chuckled and said he was a shark spotter. I was like wha? He said they have tiger sharks that come up to the beach area sometimes so they watch for them.

Now we dive, so sharks don't really bother me too much, and that water is so super clear you can see everything, but you can bet I started looking a little more often. Even if he was just yanking my chain, which I couldn't really tell. ;)

I think we were on the same cruise, April 19-26? Didn't know that about HMC and the sharks. But I am a certified diver and I was in about chest deep water and I seen a 3 foot or so fish come swimming by me at a very fast pace and immediately I looked to see what might be chasing it. Didn't see anything, but know I have to wonder. lol! We had cabana #10 about half way down the beach.
