yorkybabe Posted May 1, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 1, 2015 I am currently trying to make up my mind whether to visit the Baltic next year on the Arcadia or on Balmoral. Have travelled on Balmoral before and enjoyed it. Would appreciate any help. Will be travelling with my husabnd, we are both in our early 60s
1160451 Posted May 1, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 1, 2015 We are early 60's and have cruised on both ships. Balmoral is our favourite Fred ship, and Arcadia our favourite PandO. So I would have no worry with either. We think food is better on Fred, overall entertainment is better on PandO. Fred has AI which as we do drink quite a lot is a plus. Crew overall a touch friendlier on Fred. Fred a little more Formal for Dinner which we like. Arcadia a bigger ship. Age of passengers will probably be wider on Arcadia. All in all could be the ports of call that would decide. Not much help really is it as they are both top class, but as we are on the Fred site go Balmoral, we love it. 1160451 Posted May 1, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 1, 2015 Forgot to say we are on the Balmoral to the Baltic in September. So maybe that answers your question. Didn't consider PandO as we got such great deals on three Fred cruises plus the AI..😀
HEPcruise Posted May 3, 2015 #4 Share Posted May 3, 2015 I've cruised on Balmoral and would highly recommend, the food is very good and ship is friendly. The entertainment is of a good standard, but perhaps not as glitzy as P&O. I have not cruised on Arcadia but have travelled on P&O Oceana. I personally much prefered Balmoral, but I like smaller, friendly ships, although the P&O ships tend to have a slightly higher standard of cabins. As someone has already mentioned, the all inclusive package on Fred Olsen is very good value (when doing their £10/night). If it was me, I would choose Balmoral!
