gliss Posted September 12, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 12, 2005 Am going on Oosterdam 7/15/06 to Alaska & unsure which room to choose. Can save $1000 for VA class rm 5182 AFT as opposed to SS stateroom on deck 8. Love to hear about room size comparisons if anyone knows, room for clothes, walking around each other, and sitting on verandah. Room 5182 verandah may have good views since it is in back of ship-can view either side. There is 100 sq ft difference in room size and 50 sq ft difference in verandah. Worth $1000 for 2 people
peaches from georgia Posted September 12, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 12, 2005 This is a question I don't think anyone can answer for somebody else and frankly, I don't want to make my decision based on what something is worth to someone else, or a hundred someone else's. You really have all the info you need, especially looking at the diagrams of the 2 different staterooms on the HAL website. The SS is certainly much larger and you can see on the drawing how much more 'walking around' room there is and how much larger the balcony is. The sitting area has a much larger sofa and an extra chair. The bed has 2 night tables instead of one. The closet area is substantially larger and the bathroom has a separate shower in addition to the tub and there are double sinks versus just one. Now, is this worth the price difference to you? To me it would be without thinking twice about it, but I would never take the facts that I can see and know and let someone else's opinion sway me either way. It's only worth it if it is worth it to you,. ;)
jhannah Posted September 13, 2005 #3 Share Posted September 13, 2005 I agree that everyone has to decide for themselves what they're comfortable paying for a stateroom. Peaches mentioned the bathroom, and that, to me, is worth getting a larger cabin than the VA. Like her, I wouldn't have to think twice. But if saving the grand will allow you to take another cruise sooner, then that might be worth considering.
JimVrhovac Posted September 13, 2005 #4 Share Posted September 13, 2005 We have stayed in suites and Veranda rooms and now use the verandah rooms almost exclusively. They have more than enough room for us and allow us to book more cruises.... It is really a personal preference.... Jim & Ruth
