We had a party of six. Just walked off the ship and designated one member of the group to approach several of the drivers who were lined up and waiting for people like us. He negotiated a deal and off we went in his air conditioned van. The driver did a creditable job, took us to all the local spots of interest, including what used to be the natural bridge, the beach up near the golf course, the rock mound in the middle of the island, etc. He also told us how to take the local bus for $2 up along hotel row and where he thought the best beaches were. Aruba is pretty uncomplicated and small. You shouldn't need to book ahead. Just grab a taxi.

We (two couples) were in Aruba and rented an airconditioned 4 wheel drive and went all over the island. Even back to the ship for lunch and then off again. It was very easy. Car rentals just across from pier. Driving was easy.
