Hotel help in Houston

We'll be cruising out of Houston next February on a Western Caribbean cruise. Trying to get some info as we're not familiar with the area. We hope to fly into Hobby the day before the cruise. Any suggestions for a hotel with a shuttle service? Thank you!

Which port?

Are you cruising on NCL or Princess from Bayport?

Or are you cruising on RCI or Carnival out of Galveston?

In either case both ports are far from either airport but Houston Hobby would be closer.

The port is far enough away that airport hotels do not offer shuttlle to port.

 

Some people overnight at an airport hotel with free airport shuttle then shuttle next day back to airport and take ship transfer bus.

Some people take taxi from hotel to port.

I'm also leaving on carnival out of Galveston. We land at Houston hobby. Wondering if we should stay at a airport hotel and utilize shuttle then take a private transfer to port or private transfer to port area and hopefully find hotel with shuttle to port terminal. I'm thinking staying in the airport area would be more cost effective especially if we would need a place for dinner and a store would be nice to purchase the soda we will bring on board. My question though is... where is a good location. Safe but with stores and resturants within walking distance. I've heard there are some sketchy areas in Houston.
