jad828 Posted April 4, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2004 How formal is formal night these days? When I sailed Princess back in 2001 many men wore tuxedo's...but on our past cruise (on another line) formal night wasn't so formal..mostly suits. What's it like these days? Thanks in advance! sue d. miller Posted April 4, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 4, 2004 On our last cruise in October, about 40% wore tux's. The rest were dark suits. Mostly black or navy. This was in the traditional dining room. 7 Days on The Star Princess OCTOBER,24,2004 <applet code="countdown.class" CODEBASE="http://*************/java-sys" width="203" height="25"> <param name="font" value="lcdb0"> <param name="year" value=2004> <param name="month" value=10> <param name="day" value=24> <param name="hour" value=05> </applet>

captrain Posted April 4, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 4, 2004 I always wear a tux, and usually find it about 50-50. I do find that the shorter the cruise the less Tuxes show up. Captrain 32 Princess cruises and counting
sue d. miller Posted April 4, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 4, 2004 I love a tux. jad828 Posted April 5, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted April 5, 2004 I love a tux too, not only do men look handsome but they are very formal...hence "formal" night. My husband just felt over-dressed on our last cruise. He doesn't want to stand out on this one. I think he will be fine...he just needed reassurance. shellyc Posted April 5, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 5, 2004 Last year we did the 7 night Eastern Caribbean on another line with the Pink Ribbon Cruise Group. There were 4 men and 30 women in our group. I chose to rent DH a tux. DH was labeled "MR BOND" by the ladies of the group and they made a big fuss over him. We still receive emails from the group leader, and she always refers to us as "MR & MRS BOND". DH is thrilled...and has requested a TUX rental for our Diamond cruise in June. Guest Posted April 5, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 5, 2004 Just off Sun Princess - I'd say the tux to suit comparison is about 50-50. Some of those suits were actually semi-formal sport coats and slacks, but close enough, I guess. One way I get away from the "tux" syndrome is to wear mine with a regular tie - I have one solid black and one solid white tie that I use - one for each formal night - instead of the bow tie...kinda changes the look... ------------------------- Sun Princess, 03/2004; Pacific Princess, 07/2003; Star Princess, 05/2003; Grand Princess, 10/2002; Grand Princess, 10/2002; Sun Princess, 05/2001; Sun Princess, 04/2001; Sun Princess, 09/2000; Sun Princess, 09/2000; Regal Princess, 10/1999; Sun Princess, 08/1998; Holiday, 05/1998; Westerdam, 09/1997; Regal Princess, 11/1996; Royal Odyssey, 09/1995; Starward, 11/1993
starsjohn Posted April 5, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 5, 2004 I noticed at the Academy Awards this year that many of the men had long solid color silk ties instead of bow ties. Is this a changing style? I like the look. John

starsjohn Posted April 5, 2004 #13 Share Posted April 5, 2004 Thanks Sue, it looks like I have the fuel for a shopping expedition to Fashion Island today. I wonder which color is best? I guess we look to BDJAM for inspiration. John
