Instead of a day hotel.....

How about going to the Aquarium? They'll hold your luggage.

Long Beach Passport bus is free and has stops at the port and aquarium.

We are cruising the Miracle in September, but can't get a flight home until 5 pm. Can anyone recommend a good day hotel near LAX with a pool?

First, you need to ask yourself how much time you really have.

A flight home at 5:00 pm may sound like a long day, but...

Say you are able to get off the ship around 9:00 am (and, remember, disembarkation at Carnival in Long Beach is notoriously s l o w . . .), you need to figure around an hour, give or take, to get a taxi or shuttle and get from Long Beach to LAX (If you take a taxi, you can go directly to the hotel...with a cheaper shuttle deal, you may be dropped off and then need to get the hotel shuttle to get from the terminal to your hotel--which could take more time than you think)...but, will call it an hour...So, you are looking at arriving at your LAX area hotel no earlier than 10:00 am, maybe more like 11:00...

LAX recommends that you get to the terminal two hours before a domestic flight...So, you need to be there by 3:00 pm for that 5:00 pm flight...Figuring in some time for the hotel shuttle (A very short ride, but, they are on their schedule, not yours)...Say you should be out of the pool, dressed, packed, in the lobby and ready to go by 2:30...

That gives you MAYBE three and a half hours at the hotel...

The Four Points has a pool--though nothing special...and advertises a "day rate" on their website for $109...but Monday through Friday only...

The Travelodge (no great shakes as a hotel, but you are not there long anyway) has a pool and a "day rate" starting at $65 and up (depends on date and number of guests)...

There may be others...but, always remember these kind of rates are limited...Hotels would much rather rent for full rate...

So, you've got to decide if maybe three hours in the crummy hotel pool and a place to change is worth maybe $65 to $109 plus tax...

You could also just get a shuttle to the airport, check in your luggage, then catch a bus or a taxi up to some place like Venice, walk around on the Boardwalk, have a nice lunch at, for example, C&O Trattoria, then head back to the airport and check in...
