QE2 Cabin 1049

Hi everyone. Has anyone stayed in cabin 1049 on the QE2, I think Whylion has said they stayed there in a previous thread. I have enquired about this cabin for a trip next year and it is currentlt free. I would be very grateful if anybody

who has stayed in it previously could give me a review of it; including items

such as location, deck traffic noise, cabin decor and comfort, does it have an

inter-connecting door and if so what's the noise level from the next cabin like?

It's great to be able to ask you guys these kind of questions before taking the

plunge and booking. As I said, any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

We stayed in 1049 for 48 glorious days and nights on the World Cruise a few years ago. We also will be in 1049 in Oct/Nov. So obviously we like it. It's amidship which is good for (less) movement in rough seas, which QE2 takes well like she should for an ocean liner! It has one large oval "porthole" (we've been in Q3's on Deck 2 and like the 3 round portholes better tho). It's convenient to the pool and aft deck. No excessive noice. I can't remember about the interconnecting door but I think it may have one which connected to 1051, the handicap one aft. We've never noticed any notice from the interconnection doors in other Q3's on Deck 1 or 2. 1 closet by the door, another walk through closet/dressing room which goes into the bathroom. Toilet, bidet, 1 sink, combination tub/shower. Small fridge, safe, love seat and a couple of chairs. These staterooms have the original wood paneling and are very classic. It's a good choice.

What is the date of the voyage you are planning? I can report more to you after our upcoming trip if there is anything else.

Wotec gives a very good description of 1049 -- It's pretty quiet except for some creaking ship sounds. There's not a lot of movement with the ship. It's under the Chart room bar, so you can hear cocktail piano while you're getting dressed for dinner, but it closes up around 11. There's one connecting door, but it's locked from both sides. The woodwork and gold leaf are very nice (much nicer than the 2 deck cabins) but the upholstery and bedspreads are kind of shabby (seems like that in all the cabins we've tried)

Bon Voyage!

I've stayed in 1049 three times, like it very much. It was my first stateroom booking to ride in Queens Grill. It is one of the 11 original First Class staterooms starboard -- 11 portside as well -- with the large, oval, windows.

Underneath on Two Deck, the 22 cabins have three portholes, are about the same in size and decor and are preferred by some because of the portholes.

For me, there is just something about being in an original First Class stateroom, so I have booked it since. However all the staterooms in that patch have the gold-leaf, coved, ceilings under which I feel very much at sea and at home on the QE2. Yes, try 1049! Or any of the One Deck 22. Or the 22 on two Deck, even.

Those what-I-call-mobile-homes they've craned up onto Signal and Sports Decks are ok, all gold and green and teak, and Gordon-when-there was fantastic, but there is, today, still the feeling of walking through a coffee shoppe to get to a casino or to climb to your cabin. No, give me One Deck and an oval window. Try one! :)

As well, you may book a Q3 and not have to eat in Queens Grill, but rather request to dine in Princess Grill. The Princess Grill cabins are nice, lots of teak panels, but the line can arrange for you to have the best of both worlds, the best (for me, my opinion) grill and the best (type of) cabin!

OR -- again my opinion, and not for everyone -- book a what-I-lovingly-call trash-class cabin and make three crossings for the cost of one!

At whatever cost, you cannot get enough of the QE2! :) :)
