steve2001 Posted September 15, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2005 Anybody have any details on this ship? Will this be similar to Saphire / Diamond or Caribbean / Crown? Itineraries? Until I saw the article on Cruise News Dailythis morning, I didn't realize this ship was to be built.
calikak Posted September 15, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2005 My understanding is that it will be the same size as the Caribbean and Crown. I'm not sure if it will have a layout like the Caribbean or more like the Crown, I don't think that's been announced yet. This page has info about which companies have ordered ships from which shipyard: http://www.marinelog.com/DOCS/PRINTMMV/MMVFebcru2.html Note that Carnival has ordered another ship of the same tonnage/passenger size as the Caribbean/Crown/Emerald that is due to be delivered in 2008. Carnival has not yet announced which line under its umbrella (HAL, Princess, Cunard, Carnival, Costa, Seabourn, Windstar, P&O, Ocean Village, Swan Hellenic, and AIDA...I think I remembered them all, is that right?) will receive this ship. Since it's the same size as 3 other Princess ships, it's definitely possible it'll become another uber-grand-class ship, but it's also possible that it'll go to a different line. TorontoTL Posted September 15, 2005 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2005 I think the Emerald is supposed to be like the Crown more than any of the other Grand class ships, but time will tell. As far as the other ship on order, I read somewhere that it was going to be called the Canberra, I can't remember where, but it wasn't an official announcement from Princess. Part of the rumour was that it was to go to P&O, but again, since there hasn't been an announcement it is really hard to say. Apparently P&O had a ship called the Canberra in the past.
