Longboysfan Posted September 15, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2005 Flying in early am to Houston and taking the Celebrity transfer to the pier in Galveston. I know it takes about 1 3/4 to 2 hours to get there. Does anyone know - who used the Celebrity transfers when they start boarding their busses for the pier? What time they may get there. Is there anything to walk to in the pier area - I thing it is next to their down town area? Anything thing to do close into the pier area?
wolfganghowell Posted September 15, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2005 Depends on what your version of walking distance is. There are some nice restaurants close to the pier just down the way. The tall ship Alissa is docked there and does tours. Also a museum that shows a film of the history of the great hurricane that destroyed Galveston. Across the street is a Starbucks. The Strand is a healthy walk across the way with restaurants and shops.

tawcat Posted September 15, 2005 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2005 first depending upon which airport you fly into will determine the time to galveston. if you fly into houston international the drive time will be about 2 hours dependent on traffic; flying into hobby, drive time is about an hour. last time we went out of galveston, boarding began around noon. the strand as previously mentioned is the main street with shops a few restuarants etc. shops begin opening between 9 - 10 a.m. restuarants in that area probably don't serve breakfast, so lunch would be the earliest meal time. neat little town and within walking distance, only a couple of blocks. there are a few restaurants on the pier again a few bolcks. not sure this helped. Longboysfan Posted September 16, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted September 16, 2005 Thanks. I got the port layout. Hopefully it's right in the down town area. With the transfers - I know they wait to fill up a bus. Just wondering if anyone did this. And how early they arrived. And the bus left for the ship.
