Random question about back-to-back cruises

I'm thinking about book a back to back cruise next year and I wanted to know if you have to debark between cruises.

Yes, briefly. After the last pax have debarked, you'll be escorted off the ship, have your passport/id checked and you'll get right back on.

Alternatively, you may leave the ship for the day (shopping, excursion). In that case, you have to use the regular customs exit and and you can re-board using the priority line.

BTW, your luggage stays onboard. If you have the same stateroom it'll be easiest, otherwise you have to pack your bags and the room stewards will move them.

Correct. We did it on the Glory and it was a very easy process. There was quite a group of us as it was B2B from a 2n to a 7n.

The only peev was that we were instructed to meet at a certain time, but then couldn't leave until all other pax were off and of course we had some stragglers. They sure got heckled when they walked past all of us!

Customs was literally just a look at our passport, the whole process including walking to/from customs was maybe 10 minutes.

It's a pretty cool feeling being the only ones on the ship. I took a walk through the promenade and lido before boarding started. Then go and find the best desk chair on the ship, you have first grabs :D

We've done 3 in-a-row B2Bs with our 4th one booked for next January.

On our last B2B (Conquest) we were escorted off the ship, went through customs, & back on. We were offered OJ, Mimosa, or champagne. Then 2 photos were taken - one serious, & one funny. Copies of these photos were in our cabin a couple of days later.

This is the first time we've experienced this, but it was a very nice touch.

In LA they take to the Captains lounge outside and we waited for a good half hour until we were escorted back on the ship. This happened twice to us last month.

Long Beach has the great distinction of requiring the whole Dome be empty before anyone can enter.

I've done 3 B2B's, including Glory, and they're a lot of fun. You really get to know the crew. I've changed cabins every time- by the time I booked the cabin wasn't available both trips or in one case we went from an OV to a suite. It's a little hair raising that way because you have to leave your luggage either in the hallway of the old cabin or the new one and I always feel like someone is going to think it belongs off the ship. I was a straggler on Glory who everyone was probably upset with but we never got "the letter" despite asking at GS multiple times the day before. On Fantasy they did make a big deal over us, it was really nice.

I was very popular on my back to back. That was when you bought booze the last night you could take it to your room. :D

I have 4 b2b sets lined up. Have they caught on to that or will hold my purchases till after the 2nd week?

We were on a cruise that had multiple legs. One couple bought us a bottle of scotch as we were leaving the ship after the second leg. We left it for them as they were staying on. ;);)

Agreed with other posters... it's very easy!

It's also fun to have the ship to yourselves for a little time!

Best part is being escorted back on while the people from the next cruise are watching you re-board wanting to know why you're so 'SPECIAL' to be getting on first! Just give them your best 'Kingly/Queenly' wave', and mouth the words: "Nah - nah - nah - nah - nah!" and move on... :D (just kidding!!)

Do you get a good deal when you book b2b cruises? Also, if you don't mind my asking, why do you prefer them?

Our last B2B was a "status" run so I could hit my 10 cruises to make me platinum VIFP under the old rules before they changed. We found a cruise with a 2n sailing, and just booked the 7n after it. Not a bad value adding on the 2n. We had the same rooms booked but got an upgrade call for the 7n leg and jumped on it. They were great about helping us move our luggage!

Our next B2B is because we didn't find a 7n itinerary that we really liked as much as the combined 9n itinerary combining a 4n west and 5n east B2B. Princess actually sells these kinds of itineraries as a single cruise so you don't have two booking numbers/payments etc. Kind of smart on their part!

PS if anyone notices changes to the duty free, let me know. We are really hoping to take advantage of it on our first leg and keep it for our second leg again! We don't think it'll change because I think technically they have to deliver all duty free after each sailing. I wouldn't think they'd be "allowed" to hold your duty free from one sailing to another. Any feedback welcome!

Carnival doesn't give you any better price for b2b. They really should. We have done it because you only have one airfare. With prices of airfare sooooo expensive these days you have to try and make the best of it. The hardest part is getting vacation time off from work two weeks in a row.

DW and I are doing our first B2B starting 6/20 on the Breeze. We are very excited for it! Now to figure out booze for the second leg. I'm hoping we can buy the last night of the first leg and carry it back to the room.
