To book an excursion via cruise line or directly?

I'm leaving Friday 6/26 on Carnival Ecstasy. I want to take my children on a dolphin excursion in Nassau, Bahamas but I'm considering alternative ways other than booking directly with Carnival. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

My suggestion would be you book this at Blue Lagoon, just a quick boat ride from near where the ship will dock and they give you a tour from the boat as you cross over to Blue Lagoon. They have the dolphin encounters in a sheltered area and also the beach is great for young kids as the water isn't that deep and they have water toys to play on. There is food and drinks, plenty of places to relax on the beach and in the shade. It's literally the perfect family beach day and quite inexpensive. No need to book through the ship:
