blueseas Posted September 18, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 18, 2005 After our 10/22 Glory cruise our flight out of Orlando is not til 6:30 pm. Any ideas what to do instead of spending 6 hours at the airport? We're renting a car so after our cruise we have wheels & a place to store our luggage. Any idea? cali-croozer Posted September 18, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 18, 2005 Another option would be to purchase a post-cruise excursion through Carnival. Our friends did this in New Orleans and were very pleased. They were off the ship first (with the VIPs), retrieved their luggage, and walked over to the tour bus. They didn't have to worry about their luggage until they got to the airport, after the tour was over------their tour ended at the airport so it was very convenient. I don't know what is offered for Orlando.
obx_fintoo Posted September 18, 2005 #3 Share Posted September 18, 2005 Cocoa Beach is just a few minutes south of Port Canaveral. If you like to shop, you should stop by Ron Jon's. Also, Rusty's is a good restaurant near the Port. Think Hooter's for seafood, but terrific food. Several other neat places to either shop or eat, plus you could hit the beach for a few hours. If you don't want the beach, the Banana River has several public access sites as well. Hope you have a great time!

Hooters is (beyond popular belief) a pretty good family place to eat good food. Simply running around of the streets you will find that there are many things to do within a 15 minute range... We love to cruise from Canaveral and stay in Cocoa Beach a night before, after, or both. Stay at the Comfort Inn right beside Ron Jon's. We just had a little one (20 months old now) so for our April and upcoming December, we are cruising out of Jacksonville since it's a closer drive and less time away from her. We can't wait to get back on our regular itinerary! Maybe see ya then!
big_duck Posted September 18, 2005 #6 Share Posted September 18, 2005 Instead of renting a car, you can take the Kennedy Space Center tour through Carnival. They provide bus transportation to the space center then to the airport. Your luggage is loaded on the bus so you don't have to worry about shleping it around with you. sallyb Posted September 18, 2005 #7 Share Posted September 18, 2005 We always take an excursion post cruise. Last year, we had an airboat ride through the Everglades, it was one of the best days of the whole cruise! Also, no worry for transportation or luggage. mnsawyer Posted September 18, 2005 #8 Share Posted September 18, 2005 Even if you take the post-cruise excursion through Carnival, you'll be at the Orlando airport around 2:00 p.m. which still leaves you 4 1/2 hours to hang around. We had a 5:00 p.m. departure out of Orlando and the last 2 hours were pretty bad! We should have rented a car through Budget. You can just take their shuttle from the port to the office which is right on A1A. You could go to the Space Center on your own or just hang around the Cocoa Beach area or even go to Orlando and check out their sites. To me, Sea World would be a great one to do since you can see most everything in 3-4 hours and still have time for an early dinner/late lunch, return the car and check-in. Also, the Hyatt has a day rate for $75 which allows you access to all of the Hyatt's facilities including the pool, etc from 9-5 (that was the case last April). You could just relax in your room, enjoy the pool and shower before your flight. Hopefully, this helps. Mary
