Is Queen Mary 2 suitable for people in their mid twenties to early thirties)?

I'm in my mid-twenties and my DH is 30. We look young for our ages. I was wondering if the QM2 is suitable for us. Also, we are not loud party people at all, yet we did enjoy the many activities Carnival had when we sailed her last time (we did not go to all of them, but just enjoyed the fact that there are so many things to do). We are not the type who would want to sit around the ship quietly reading a book, but on the other hand would enjoy lounging lazily by the pool in the daytime. Additionally, we are just ordinary hardworking people who would enjoy sailing on this amazing liner and be pampered, and not the wealthy types if you know what i mean.

Will we feel out of place in QM2? And would other people think we are wierd if we sail on QM2? Also for those who have sailed in this wonderful QM2, what kinds of activities or things to do are there and what is the age distribution of people who sail on this ship.

Thanks everyone for your help.

From what you tell of yourself, I think you'll find that QM-2 fits you like a glove.

There's plenty to do. it's not the HMS COUCHPOTATO, but you'll also have the freedom to do the couch potato thing too anytime you wish.

You probably not be the youngest persons sailing aboard her either.

She designed

sort of" with history in mind, but she's definately designed to cater to 21st century tastes.

I'm 51 and have been sailing on Cunard since I was 25. I sampled QM-2 in 2004 and found the G-32 Lounge a bit young & rowdy for my tastes, but that's only one small corner of the ship.

Bottom line: The ship has something for just about everyone.

Well the things to do are very different from those you enjoyed with Carnival.

A typical day in July was -

Oxford lecture "The rise and fall of the Broadway musical".

Oxford lecture "Why do apples fall".

Maritime historian lecture "Titanic survivor".

H Stern jewellery lecture.

Talk on Cylette jewellery.

Art auction.

Wine tasting.

Canyon Ranch fitness class.

RADA workshop "Can you hear me at the back".

Two movies, afternoon and evening.

Planetarian show.

Varios activities such as Bingo, quizes, computer lessons, dance class scarf tying etc.

To be honest not much of this would have appealed to me when I was in my twenties. But then she is a magnficent ship.

My wife and I are in our mid thirties and sailed the QM2 in Jaunuary, doing the seven day carribean.

We loved the ship. Yes, there were much older people than our normal Celebrity cruises, but that did not matter at all to us.

The ship is wonderful. We really enjoyed the wine bar. Not many people there and they give you many different cheeses and olives with your wine.

I saw that the QM2 will be doing the seven day cruises in December 2006 and hope she will continue doing those in January of 2007. If she is doing the seven day cruises we plan on doing it again.

The only weak item, that we thought, was the pool areas. But keeping in mind that the QM2 is not a cruise ship, but liner, it is understandable.

It depends on what you are looking for. If you want a cruise ship experience, then another line might be preferable. If you want the experience of a grand ocean liner, then QM2 is worth it.

Everyone is different. When I was in my 20's I enjoyed fun and parties, but also quiet and contemplation, and everything in between.

For 20's you have plenty to do on QM2: classes (like RADA acting classes), Oxford lectures, the computer room, the planetarium, the theatre productions, the gym and spa, the casino, bars, and the G32 nightclub to dance until the wee hours...

The only thing I would say about the Cunard ships, they are not places to be "drunk, rowdy and disorderly" in the fashion of Spring break in Florida. There are quite a few young people on board on QM2 crossings (many more than on QE2)---maybe about 30% I'd say. However, the style of the ship is more traditional than the average cruise ship.

In a word Yes. QM2 has so much to do that you will always find something that will intrest you. When we sailed on her in May 04 (8 day eastern Caribbean), there were days we attempted to do everything and days we did nothing but go to Canyon Ranch (my favorite day). I would suggest that you pick a sailing that has ports that intrest you so that they will break up your time on board.

We are in our late 30's and this was our first cruise and enjoyed being pampered.

I'm 38 and my DH is 40, we just booked the QM2 for a 4 day cruise in September of 2006. We had the same concerns you do but, figured we'd give a shot. If your user name is correct, that means you're from NY...why not try the 4 day cruise on September 2, 2006? It sails from NYC and goes to Canada. This way you're not making a huge commitment financially or physically since it is only 4 days and you go to Halifax, Canada for the port of call on this cruise. Also, checkout *****.com, I saw a special being advertised there for this sailing. Hope you decide to give it a try! We are!

  • 1 month later...

Hi,

I'm 31 and sailed on QM2 earlier this year and LOVED it. The ship is full of people of all ages and all backgrounds - the one thing in common is everyone is having the most wonderful time.

Some people takes cruises several times a year, others have saved up to take thier trip of a lifetime. Some you'll like, some you won't - it doesn't matter - the ship is big enough and offers enough variety to do what you want, with whom you want, when you want.

I would echo the point made above about the ship not being a spring break destination - come prepared to get dressed up most evenings and revel in how great you will look as a couple. I promise you'll have the photos on display at home!!

Best wishes,

Teresa

PS. Only 1 month till we are back on QM2 !!:D
