lyban Posted July 9, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 9, 2015 I have only been on 1 cruise and am now booked for my second. I have always wondered how the guaranteed cabin system works. Cannot wrap my head around what exactly you book and what price you pay. Can someone explain it or link me to a page with information. Thanks
RadioRob Posted July 9, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 9, 2015 (edited) You are booking a "minimum class of room". Let's say you book a Balcony Guarantee. You're GUARANTEED to have at minimum a room with a balcony. You don't know which room you're going to get (that's determined by RCL at some point before your sail date... anytime from hours after booking to weeks after final payment). You could end up in a room class higher than you booked potentially. Basically at a high level, you're giving up the right to pick your room in exchange for a cheaper rate. RadioRob Posted July 9, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 9, 2015 By the way... there's an article on this on Cruise Critic's site. Check out: http://www.cruisecritic.com/articles.cfm?ID=
Clarea Posted July 9, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 9, 2015 A guarantee stateroom is one in which you choose only a minimum category and let the cruise line pick out your specific stateroom. Guarantees are not offered on every sailing nor in every category when they are offered.
lyban Posted July 9, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted July 9, 2015 Thank you rob and bob. I went to that site linked and read up on the guarantee program. I don,t think it is for me but you never know. I also went on RCI to try a mock booking and cannot find where you would know if a guarantee is offered for a particulate cruise.
Colorado Babe Posted July 9, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 9, 2015 On my last cruise on liberty of the seas, I took the balcony guarantee and was given a superior balcony on hump: score!
Clarea Posted July 9, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 9, 2015 (edited) ...I also went on RCI to try a mock booking and cannot find where you would know if a guarantee is offered for a particulate cruise. You cannot see the guarantee category unless you go deeper into the major category. You have to click on the "Show Options" button in order to see if there are any guarantees. Look at the interior category for Oasis sailing 05-Sep-2015. Edited July 9, 2015 by clarea
Ken at the beach Posted July 9, 2015 #8 Share Posted July 9, 2015 Also for those that book in North America, once your cabin is assigned you are able to switch it to any other available cabin in the exact same category. For example a D3 can switch to any other available D3 cabin.
lyban Posted July 9, 2015 Author #9 Share Posted July 9, 2015 Thanks bob, I found it on the one you suggested. So much to learn but CC always comes to my rescue.
Danswife12 Posted July 9, 2015 #10 Share Posted July 9, 2015 On our last we booked an guarantee inside and were given an ocean view balcony. It was lucky, but you never know.
