We sail on the Sunshine in December for the first time. We have only sailed once before - on the Freedom.

 

Please can you share tips of what we should not miss?

 

Also any other tips / secrets about the Sunshine would be appreciated!

Just looking at this post and realized that I was on your Freedom cruise and will be on the Sunshine cruise in December. Small world...

Agree with everyone about the Havana bar area; it was our meet up spot and where we often ate. Could never figure out why it wasn't more crowded...I too have the Serenity waterfall as my desktop wallpaper. Loved hanging out up there late in the day when hardly anyone was there. Although I'm not a big drinker, I'd have to say that the Alchemy bar was a-mazing. What I would not give for just one sip of a pineapple chipotle martini right now.

The pineapple chipotle martini was my obsession last year on the Liberty. I cannot wait to have another one on the Sunshine! 🍸🍹

Glad to hear so many great things are available on Sunshine. Sunshine will be used for the 2016 sailing out of NYC. I plan to do the 7 day New England/Canada cruise in September 2016 or one of the 8 day itineraries heading south. I like Splendor out of NYC but Sunshine will be a nice change.:cool:

We have a family 8 day Sunshine cruise booked Nov 13 2015 and a Journey 9 day cruise booked Apr 29 2016. Yes we love the Sunshine. Please do not say any more about the Havana Bar area. Keep it a secret, just for us. It has cook to order omelets in the morning, Wok at lunch and Ji Ji for dinner. No need for the MDR LOL:D:D

Just off Sunshine last Friday. My absolute favorite place was Deck 3 outside of Guest Services or on the other side out the doors by the Excursion Desk. Quiet, loungers, shaded by the lifeboats, no music, very few people (though a bit more 'found' it as the time went on). Saw a few smokers on the wrong 'side'. They really should have better signage. I cannot stand all that commotion up top by the pool. Unfortunately they put Serenity just above all the noise. Very loud. Also, not very adult- kids all over the place- not monitored in any way. Even in the Serenity hot tub (with their parents!). Chairs are stacked up after dinner. But easy enough to pull some down in the evening. I do wish there were 'regular' chairs, too. Not just loungers. But I would sit out there even if I had to bring my own 'camp' chair on a cruise!

I won $100 on the Wheel of Fortune slot machine after a $6 bet on the 2nd night. But, of course, I lost half of it throughout the week so I gave u playing. I heard MANY people complaining they were tight around Thursday and Friday.

Just plan on total darkness, it's odd how we rely on the light from windows to help us know what time it is...even that little tiny crack through the curtains. I've done inside once, and it was just too much lack of reality for me. The lowest I want to go portholes

Thanks for confirming my impression about Deck 3. Sounds like the perfect place for quiet reading for those of us who sometimes like to escape the lido noise. I have no problem directing smokers to the correct side of the ship. :D

 

The only flaw I can see with Sunshine is the shortage of hot tubs. I would never let my kids go on Serenity, but I do wish they had added family hot tubs, maybe on deck 3, like the Dream class lanai deck. Putting Serenity right in the middle of things has also I'm sure contributed to the kids being hard to keep out.

We always book inside cabins! We ventured out on one cruise and booked a balcony - for us - I can't see spending all the extra money. It was nice and all, but I prefer inside. Just my opinion! I love the darkness of the inside. It's not that hard to figure out what time it is - just turn the TV on or bring a clock! Pretty easy!!

Does anyone know what time you can get a cup of coffee in the AM at the Taste Bar?

 

I think we are booking a cabin on deck 5 and DH is usually up early and would love to have coffee without going up to the buffet.

Have you seen the insides that have a window?

 

 

 

Apparently you can't see the ocean, you might see people walking by, or lifeboats, etc but you would have light.:)

 

 

These are at the front of the ship, there is an small open deck lot there. These are nice cabins.

The Havana Bar...Great place that seems, is never quite busy. Great place to grab breakfast and take a seat and just relax, finding a seat is no problem(and we cruised during spring break). At the bar itself during certain times of the day is an area on the side that has different kinds of little appetizers. Definatly an overall great section of the ship!
