Just upgraded from a spa balcony to a HAVEN spa suite, for hardly anything on our GA cruise next week.

 

I havent told the wife yet. Going to make it a "pier" surprise.

You will get the SUITE bag tags in the mail so if you want to keep it secret you may need to snag the mail each day before she can get to it ;)

Normally if you upgrade this close to cruise time they will not send out new tags etc. You should call the pre concierge if you want any advance set up or request done though. Watch the mail anyway, but even with a month or more, NCL has never resent us any paperwork.

Y'all are going to love it! This was our first Suite this past year. It might be our last due to finances but we enjoyed it immensely! We loved the Haven Restaurant and I found the daybeds by the pool so relaxing. Really, the Haven was so nice the Spa privelages were kind of wasted on me....

This is my surprise upgrade story. I am glad that you will be able to make some great memories like my DH did for me.

 

My husband was called by the upgrade fairy for our European cruise back in 2010 from a Mini-Suite to a Suite. He didn't tell me anything about this, I thought we still had the Mini Suite all the way onto the ship. We met other CC members at our hotel in Barcelona who were already booked in suites and knew I didn't know about our upgrade. The confusion started at the port. I was perplexed as to why we were in a separate line for check in and thought to myself must be because we are Latitude members. After check in we were escorted to the Suite Lounge boarding area, I became very anxious as I knew a mistake had been made. A CC couple who I met that morning and were in cahoots with DH on the surprise comforted me with reassurance that we were with them and it was OK. I relaxed a little since nobody attempted to kick us out. Then a nice person (Butler) came to escort us onto the ship, I thought this was odd, didn't happen this way on our other cruises. My DH acted like this was procedure so went with it but panic is beginning to set in. We went up the escalator with people loudly making comments "How come they get to board early?" I held my hand up and said "I don't know". I am having anxiety and embarrassed at having to straighten up this colossal screw up at customer service once we got on board. We arrived at the cabin, Butler opened the door. I thought this is a weird cabin. I could only see the couch and thought we must be sleeping on that, then the Butler showed us the rest of the cabin, huge bathroom, king bed, another bedroom, huge balcony. I am so BAFFLED, my head is spinning and I knew we did not reserve this room. My DH is not saying a word, just taking it all in that he finally got me. I looked at him and held up my hands in the "What the Heck is this gesture?" He stated, "Honey, I upgraded". I lost it.....totally LOST it, ugly cry, the whole works. In 35 years of marriage he had never been able to surprise me with anything...He isn't generally that good at keeping secrets.

I say let it play out if you can, the memory of that day is one of my favorite memories . BTW the deal NCL offered back then was awesome, couldn't be passed up.

 

Have fun on your cruise and keep the secret, it will pay off on your cruise.
