Western cruise, Conquest & in general questions

Hi Everyone!! Im putting my Casino offer to uses and will be cruising on the Conquest Western itinerary. Haven't cruised in 2 years and I notice some changes and need your input/answers.

1. I realize that the daily activity news letter is no longer the Capers. Looking for copies of the newsletter for this cruise.

2. What sort of theme parties are they having now?

3. Does anyone have a idea of picture cost? I'm mainly looking at purchasing the embark pics and the port pics.

4. Can I make copies of these pics somewhere like Wal-Mart or do they have a no copy restriction?

5. Are you still allowed to take soft drinks, juices, etc onboard?

6. If anyone has docked in Falmouth, is there shopping on the dock?

7. What soft drink products is Carnival using, Coke or Pepsi?

This is probably just a short start to many questions. I appreciate any help you can offer!!

I can answer a couple for you:

5. Yes, you can still bring a 12-pack of water, soda, juice per person on board. They have to be cans though...no bottles. Except you are still allowed to bring one bottle of wine pp 21+. These must be in your carry on. You can pre-purchase water on Carnival's website for $2.99 (I think it's a 12-pack).

7. Coke products.

4. Can I make copies of these pics somewhere like Wal-Mart or do they have a no copy restriction? I think there is a restriction.

5. Are you still allowed to take soft drinks, juices, etc onboard? 12-pack of cans per person as a carry-on only.

7. What soft drink products is Carnival using, Coke or Pepsi? Coke, thank God. ;)

Thanks for the input! I'm a Coke person, so glad to hear they have their products!!

As far as making copies of the pictures, they don't prevent you from doing so. We just scan them into our computer and print them out on photo paper to share with family.

I'm sure you can do that at Walmart, too, if you don't have a scanner at home.

Just read the updated policy on Carnival website regarding beverages...

When they say "no bottles" do they mean glass bottles?? Can you bring coke in the plastic bottles? I hate canned soda... just checking...

Thanks...

No, they mean no bottles of any kind to prevent the smuggling of alcohol. Cans have tabs so cruisers are unable to replace the beverage in the can with alcohol like they could via plastic drinking bottles that have caps. My husband hates cans too but it's cheaper than buying soda on the ship.

thanks for the info. I was thinking that was the case but I was also holding out a bit of hope... dashed again!!

I guess it essentially means that if you want bottled water you must buy it from them. Never seen water in a can or a carton... ick ick ick if they even have it! We're going to buy their water for $2.99 for 12 bottles. You have to do that before you sail or they charge you $4.99 from room service.

Glad to know that I can bring a bottle of wine to drink in my stateroom though. I was disappointed when I thought I couldn't.

Still looking forward to the cruise though... we've been on the Conquest before and liked it. I see you are going on the Freedom next year. That's another Carnival ship we really like. Especially while it is going out of Port Canaveral -- a quick 45 minute drive for us. We have 3 cruises scheduled on the NCL Spirit in 2016. That ship will be sailing out of Port Canaveral starting in late October this year. It's about time NCL brought a ship to that port... very exciting stuff!!

I bought a couple of cases for our October cruise too. I was happy to see the water prices weren't bad at all. I'll happily spend $2.99 for a case of water any day to avoid dragging one through the embarkation process with me. :D

This will be my first time on the Conquest and the Freedom, can't wait! You are SO lucky to live so close to a port. I have to pay high prices to fly or make a 9-plus hour drive to Galveston, TX or New Orleans, LA. Have fun on your future cruises! We haven't sailed NCL yet but I'd love to sail on the NCL Getaway or Breakaway.

I always take my cruise photos to Walmart and make copies, no problem at all. they come out great. IIRC- there is nothing on the back stating you can't copy them.

carnival.com has a photo release.

I see you are scheduled to go on the Carnival Freedom in January. Now I'm jealous!! That was one of those ships that was truly a blast to be on from minute one!! I hope that Jen (the cruise director) is still there. She is really something else! And I mean that in a good way. She's a HUGE Minnie Mouse fan! How bad can that be? The activity staff is also one of the best. Irish Bob is a bit different.... he's really a very nice and fun guy when you get to really meet him. We spent a lot of time in the EA Sports Bar (shock of shocks) and played and won his trivia all the time. I would love to know who is still there on the activities staff... it was a sad day for us when the Freedom left our port to go to Galveston... have thought many times of driving there just to take the cruise... DH doesn't think it's a good idea to be "trapped" in a car with a very antsy person who continually asks - how much further????

We drive to MA every summer.... and it's the same.... I hate being in the car... but I refuse to fly and am terrified of trains (and clowns too) so it's the car or I walk.... hmmmm... that would interesting wouldn't it??? ;)

Hi Whacko7710!

It's great to hear that you enjoyed the Freedom ship so much! I've always cruised with my husband but the January cruise is a girls trip with my sister, my 26 yr old daughter and her best friend... all first time cruisers!!! It's so much fun to relive the awe of the first cruise through the eyes of cruise virgins! :D Thanks for sharing your experience on the Freedom.

BTW, while I love to fly and I'm not afraid to ride in trains, we share the same fear of clowns, LOL.

No plastic or glass bottles. Cans or cartons only. And you're limited to a 12 pack per person.

Thanks!! I called Carnival just to get clarification... I don't want to do things wrong you know! Also, I asked them to please add some diet sodas to their menu if they are going to restrict how much you bring on board. At the very least they could offer a diet ginger ale; not Sprite!! But, whatever....

I did order the case (12 bottles; not a case where I live, more like 1/2 case) of the water. If you don't order it before you get onboard it's $4.99 from room service. Seems like a no brainer if you know you are going to want it -- just go online and order it. It will be delivered to your stateroom... couldn't be more simple.

I was also told by Carnival that each guest over 21 can bring on a bottle of wine on embarkation day. I'm soooooo glad for that! DH and I enjoy a glass of wine in our cabin after a busy day... kind of like we do at home... very relaxing at the end of the day... I asked because someone told me that Carnival was going to start charging the $15 corkage fee..... I understand that if you are drinking your own wine at a bar or at dinner; but in your cabin?? No way... many times the corkage fee costs more than the wine!! At least for me..

Laurie -- I never leave home without it!!! However, on a cruise ship I find that a screw cap is by far the easiest.. I only drink white wine so I need an easy way to keep it cool... the screw cap makes it easy to tilt the bottle to get it under the ice or lay on it's side in the fridge... I actually sometimes bring a box wine (tetra pak to be exact). This way the tetra pak can float in the ice and stay super chilled... haven't done that in a long time but I still remember it....

Whacko7710 - I just did a Google search for Tetra Pak Wine.......the clouds parted & the angels began to sing!! I didn't realized that "box o' wine" came in handier packaging, so glad I posted a response & that you responded to my response, LOL. I'm going to have to do more research on this!!

So glad I could assist a fellow wine-o!!! If we don't help each other who will??

I'm not familiar with "box o wine"... the kind I usually get is Bandit Pinot Grigio. It's not a bad wine at all... I go to Total Wine and get it for $7.99 for a liter; the smallest liter you have ever seen.. I'll be heading to TW any day now to get it....

I'm not sure though if you can carry this on.... some lines don't let you bring boxed wine. However, a tetra pak is not a box. By definition a boxed wine contains the wine in a bladder inside a cardboard box... the tetra pak just holds the wine like a bottle... and it has a screw cap like a coke does... that might be the kicker... apparently you can't bring screw cap soda on board... this might take some investigation before I buy this to bring on... I'll have to contact Carnival yet again....

If you google tetra pak you should be able to find some sites that show what people have done with the empties... it's amazing! Quite a fashion show... I haven't checked on it in a long time but now I am most anxious to do so... being stuck at home today (when I didn't plan on it) is giving me time to find things to do.... I'll do what I can to find a good site for viewing and post the link in here...

I so appreciate you helping out a fellow wine-o!! I use the term "box o' wine" loosely........referring to wine in a box, lol! I'll have to research for locations to purchase Bandit or Wine Cube (available at Target, might have to pick one up for this weekend) once in Gavelston prior to boarding the Freedom on our next cruise!!

The Target stores around here don't carry Bandit. The only place I can get it is Total Wine (this is a national chain too). However, I just remembered that I can get it at ABC Liquors too - but, it's more expensive. You shouldn't pay any more that $7.99 for it....

Might not be able to carry it on; might have to be discreet about it... didn't call Carnival today; got caught up in shopping online.... ouch!! I knew my mouse was too close to the Amazon app.....
