15_4_115.gif Brenda: I borrowed your little smoking smilie...hope you don't mind. I am another one that doesn't smoke often....I smoke when I drink, like at a party or something like that. I did smoke on our last cruise (maybe cuz I was always drinkin?), but was always careful when and where I smoked. As for the cabin....only on the balcony and NO I do NOT throw my butts out into the ocean.

I am a smoker and i do not smoke in the cabin. I do and will always smoke on the balcony though, the cabin is too small to smoke in. My husband does not smoke so that is another reason i dont smoke in the cabin. I understand all the frustration about people not liking smoke but we all have some kind of vice in this world and smoking happens to be mine. If we all obeyed the posted signs as to where to smoke and not to smoke than i think there would be less flaming to be heard.

How lucky you both are that you can be occassional smokers. I had to stop after 35 years (wow I never thought about how long I smoked). Started at 13 had to stop at 48. Five years later and I still dream about it.

I have a friend who only smokes at work, another who only smokes when they drink. Unfortunately for me, I have an "excess" personality. Everything I do, I do tooo much of. Talk, eat, play on the computer. More unfortunate it doesn't apply to housework. But with my personality I can't smoke, drink or gamble. (I do the last two in extreme moderation)

I would so love to wake up on a cruise ship, order a pot of coffee and danish and sit on my balcony with a cigarette. Ahhh.

So please ladies, have a cigarette on your next cruise and dedicate it to Cathy O from Philadelphia.

Happy cruisin

They really use some good stuff, have never smelled smoke in our cabin.

Cindy

I have to agree with this. We've been on 3 cruises and have never experienced a smoke smell in the cabin, unlike hotels we've stayed at where in a supposedly 'non smoking room' the room reeked.

The 3 Carnival ships I've been on have been immaculate, and the only place where the smoke was bad were the casino and bars...other than that, I was never bothered by smoke at all :D

Do they have HEPA air cleaners for people with severe allergies or should I bring a small one along? Our youngest daughter has terrible asthma and is triggered by cigarette smoke (old or new). I'm just afraid she'll get a room that reeks of old smoke. Sure spray can cover it up, but it's still there.

We went on the Paradise for our last cruise and it was so wonderful. We almost booked thru Disney this time because of the smoking issues, but frankly, I get a little tired of Mickey Mouse after a while and our girls are all teens now and out of the Disney stage.

I spoke to my TA about this and he said he was sure they could put an air cleaner in her room if needed and he's checking into it for me. She takes maintenance medications (Advair) but I don't want her to get triggered in the middle of the ocean. I am bringing the nebulizer machine just in case tho.

I take it everyone that had something to type back are all smokers?

Why do you think that there is no ash trays in your staterooms? If everyone was allowed to smoke in their rooms how do you think that they could stop people from falling asleep with a cigrette lite and set the whole ship on fire?

Okay, they openly state no lite flames in staterooms which would mean no burning candles or cigerettes.

Cruizinrican

I think perhaps you need to research your cruise lines:rolleyes:

Tomorrow starts my 5th cruise. I have smoked in my stateroom on every cruise I have taken. The reason there are no ash trays in the staterooms is because the cruise line doesn't have any way of knowing who smokes and who doesn't. Simply ask your cabin steward for an ash tray. The last cruise I took, I received an ash tray within minutes of asking. The no open flames policy refers to no continuous open flames like candles. And, they do over-emphasize their rule of no smoking in bed (at least NCL does).

cruizinrican, you are mistaken. Smoking is allowed in ALL cabins on Carnival. There often are already ashtrays in the cabin when you arrive, however, if they are missing just ask the room steward and he will bring some. Disney is the only cruiseline that I know of that doesn't allow smoking in the cabins.

Oceania is probably the most restrictive of the cruise lines:

"For the comfort and safety of our guests smoking is permitted only in designated areas. These will be a small section of the Horizons Bar and a small section on the Pool Deck. Smoking is not permitted in the staterooms, public room, verandas or in any of the dining areas. Cigar and pipe smoking will not be allowed anywhere indoors."

And they have some of the old (but very, very nice) Renaissance Cruise Line ships, which were completely non-smoking.

I was very worried about our cruise in July. When I booked I told our TA we wanted nonsmoking and she did not inform us that there were no nonsmoking rooms. Our family has bad allergies and asthma, We were not looking forward to having to use a lot of medicine and nebulizers, plus, we did not want to smell like an ashtray. We actually debated canceling our cruise.

However, we had no problem what-so-ever. Our cabin smelled very clean. (Including pillows, bedding, curtains, couch, etc.) We only encountered one evening where someone in an inside cabin on our deck was smoking with her door open. YIKES!

Yes I would take the extra meds and precautions but hopefully you won't need it. We plan to book another cruise in one week. Yippee!!

Sorry, but my vice of nail biting and drinking diet Dr. Peppers doesn't usually make others sick.

I always thought the smoking on the port side rule applied to the cabins as well, not just on Carnival but other cruise lines too. Whenever I select a cabin I chose the starboard side because I always thought it was the "non-smoking" side.

I have never smelled smoke in any cabin on any of my cruises and could not tell you if they had ashtrays or not.

Nail biting is a very easy way to contract some disgusting diseases actually. Think of all the things that get under your nails in a day (Everything from all the things you touch, to going to the bathroom, and everything else). Kinda nasty biting your nails.

I think they intentionally leave ashtrays out of the room at first to throw off the "psyche anti-smoking freaks" (those that will immediately find the room "stinky" and break into a rash if they think someone has smoked in it anytime in the last 2 years). These are the same people that upon seeing you light up a cigarette a 100 yards away, immediately began fanning their face with their hand. The mind is a powerful thing . . . . :D

Nope. No NS cabins on the majority of the cruise lines.

Or if it is in a public non-smoking area immediately goto security and let them know ;).....

Since Carnival implemented their smoking restrictions, they started clearly posting in the Capers where you are allowed to smoke.

The information is posted in the Capers every day. And no where has it ever said in any Caper that smoking is allowed in your cabin.

My guess is that this is one restriction that they will not enforce until a fire from a cabin causes some death or destruction and then Carnival can say...

"our Capers clearly stated that these areas allow smoking....and the cabin is not shown as a smoking area". Hence...no responsibility. hummmmm
