Cruisewear for Kids

We are cruising the Glory and would like to know what kids (8 yr old girls/boys) are expected to wear in the dining room on casual and formal nights? I believe their is a buffet restaurant that is casual all the time too. My inlaws are taking us and I have just started to do some research. Dh and I have cruised but not with the kids.

Thanks.

My kids are 7 and 9 and we had the same dilemma a few years back on their first cruise.

My daughter wore sundresses, skirt or skorts on the casual nights. My son, a polo style shirt and dockers.

For the formal nights, my daughter usually wore a fancy dress (that she will wear again for Christmas and Easter). My son, a suit, that I always find at Sears for under $40.00 or even at a consignment store (they only get 1 year out of it).

Now, on the most recent cruise, they allowed the kids to eat with their friends in Camp Carnival on formal nights. This was a first for us. Although we love the dressy photos, immediately after, we changed the kids into shorts, dropped them off at Camp Carnival and we then hit the dining room, just my wife and I.

The kids don't like to be dressed up and it gave my wife and I 2 nights of "grown up" dinner and dancing. Nice for a change.

If you want to dress them up just for the photos, go for it, but don't make them do to dinner all dressed up on formal nights unless they really want to. Dinner at Camp Carnival is a blast!! They even bring them to the show in the main lounge, with VIP seats.

Our sons are 14, 9 and 5. Oldest ate dinner with us every night; he likes to try different foods (although he could probably live on the pizza, hamburgers and ice cream on the Lido deck). Younger two alternated dining with us and Camp Carnival. They do have a kids' menu in the dining room. For clothes, casual nights usually called for polo shirts (or crew neck shirts) and dockers. We found tuxes for them ($25-$35) on EBay for the formal nights; made for some nice pictures. Chinos, dress shirt, jacket and tie will work equally as well.
