Supper Club Reviews

I want to relate a "supper club" story... for those who worry about being about to enjoy only one item from each course... I remembered while into my entree that I wanted to try the escargot, but had forgotten to do so. The servers were more that happy to oblige. My fiancee wisely asked for the same -- she did not care for escargot, but did so for me -- so I got TWO courses of the snails from heaven! That is the life!!

We were in the Emerald room on the Glory last November. It was delicious and well worth the $25 extra that we paid. We had the colossal shrimp (very good), I had Caesar salad, Steve had a garden salad (we both liked our salads, I had anchovies for the first time and now I'm hooked :) ) We each had the porterhouse, they were both undercooked in the center, but still delicious and more than enough to eat. I don't remember what side I had, but Steve had the wasabi mashed potatoes, but had the wasabi on the side so he could adjust the heat, he doesn't do well with spicy foods. For dessert we had the flourless chocolate cake and after hearing everyone rave about them, they didn't meet our expectations. They were still good though. Our server brought us a sample of some kind of soup from the chef. I have no idea what it was, but it was good.

 

We're looking forward to Scarlett's on the Valor in a couple months. They've changed the menu slightly, so I'm going to try the sushi, Steve will have the shrimp again. We'll decide the rest later. If anyone's had the sushi, how was it?

What about David's on Pride? Any feedback there?
Absolutely awesome...just like Nick and Noras....Wonderful.....Am I reading this thread right that only the OP had a bad experience?....Sorry for that.....I've mostly only heard great things about all the Carnival supper clubs.

Sorry - No supper club on Victory. The Spirit and Conquest class ships have the supper clubs. If the kids are younger, they can dine with Camp Carnival on some nights, which can give you a chance for a quieter dinner. Our oldest son ate with us most nights, while the younger two alternated between the dining room and Camp Carnival.

We did the Golden Fleece while on the Legend in August. The food was very, very good not to mention the incredible desserts. However, DH and myself both felt it was a little too foo foo. You sip your water, it's refilled (no ice). You drop a bread crumb, it's swept off the table. You use the rest room, your napkin is folded when you come back. It was a little too much if you know what I mean. We did enjoy the experience and we are both glad we tried. Some people might really enjoy all the pampering and attention. We just kind of wanted a nice quiet dinner for 2 for our anniversary. To each his own.....

My wife and I had dinner at Nick and Nora's 8/25/05. It was excellent but would never waste that much time eating on a cruise again. Nice experience but only for one time. Basically our butts were kissed. Water always kept full , complimentary appetizer from chef , plus great ceasar salad. My DW had lobster tail for dinner...very good and large. I had 24 oz. porterhouse steak......uuummm excellent. I also forgot we both had huge shrimp cocktails. Bread was served warm and was very good. Desert was good but 2 1/2 to 3 hours just takes up too much of show times and casino or bingo or pool time. We actually missed the Beatles show due to this dinner. But it was very...very good...hope this helps you out. :)Also $30.00 per person plus drinks and tips = $140.00 so figure out for sure if you really want this.

When you sailed, was the singer an oriental woman (big fan of Nora Jones)???

Yes when we went it also was a Asian woman. It was nice but a bit funny...she said tings for things...ect..... not making fun of her honest she sang well but always said tings.:D And she was very attractive.:)

I think the answer to this is "no one-starter rule" but I thought I would ask... first an intro...

 

A favorite tack I use often on cruises is to substitute a second starter in place of the salad course. No matter how you slice it, salad is lettuce, and that is rabbit food to me; I can get all I need back home. Usually there are at least two excellent soups or other interesting starters and I would like to try two. So I skip the salad.

 

My question is: does Carnival's supper club mind if one does this? I understand two entrees are not provided, but is there a limit on starters?

So the $30 surcharge for the supper club does NOT include gratuities? I need to know this for sure... last cruise I did was with Disney and the extra fee was specifically for the wait staff.

According to the CCL website the tip is already included in the $30pp. Typically most people will tip an additional amount - either because:

a.>They REALLY thought the meal was outstanding, and wanted to extend something extra...

b.>They were not well informed, and thought it should be added to the check (especially since there is a place on the bill to add tip/gratuity !)

I think we need a thread just for reviewing the Carnival Supper Clubs.

 

Please post both good and bad experiences so that other cruisers can have good information to base decisions on.

 

We have eaten at the Supper Club on the Glory and the Miracle and will again on our upcoming cruise in November. We had large groups at both seatings and everything was excellent, so much so that my husband wanted to book every night.

We went to Nick & Nora's on our Miracle 9/11 cruise. It was ok. It did take a long time, but we went in expecting that. I loved my appetizer, crabcake, and DH got the onion soup which also was very good. The rest of the meal was ok, nothing special. Before we were given the dessert menu we ordered coffee and the poor waitress poured mine all over the table. I felt bad for her because she never came back to our table after that. We even had a different waitress clean it up. I don't regret doing the supper club, b/c I heard the dinner in the dining room wasn't very good that night. But I don't think we'd do it again. Unless I look at the menu on TV prior to booking it. :)
