Bilu444 Posted August 12, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 12, 2015 Hello. I have cruised on Carnival and RCCL and this will be my first time on NCL. I am booking a 10 day cruise and right now, can only afford an interior. Is it possible as the cruise gets closer to upgrade to an ov or balcony later? Hoping to save up some extra before the cruise. maywell Posted August 12, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 12, 2015 It depends on when you're sailing - between Sept - Feb (minus the holiday weeks), the prices drop. Depending on how bad the drop was, you might get a upgrade for 'free' or for a small fee. But the way the market is going right now (lower fares earlier in the year, more expensive closer to sail date), you might not get any upgrades.... You can upgrade for the difference in price at any time. Sometimes it works out that an OV is only a few dollars more, and it's an easy upgrade. We had one cruise where we upgraded from an inside to an OV for $50 (total, not per night!) The trend has been toward "price integrity", meaning the cruise lines are trying to get away from deep discounting in the final days before sailing. We're seeing more cruises fill up rather than go on sale at the last minute, so I would go ahead and book the inside, and if the prices change you can upgrade. If not, you locked in the price! It's a win-win.
