Sewso Posted August 19, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 19, 2015 I'm hoping someone can help. I am a wheelchair user and I've sailed twice with FOCL, once on Boudicca and once on Black Watch. On Boudicca our cabin was light and spacious with ample room for my chair and I could get the chair into the shower-room but on Black Watch the cabin was narrow, dark, had a ramp inside and I couldn't get my chair in the shower-room. On that basis I'd not choose Black Watch again although everything else was fantastic. We should have been on Boudicca in the Arctic at the moment but had to cancel, on medical advice, because my husband had a severe gastric problem. We hope to book another "northern climes" cruise but wonder what the adapted cabins on Balmoral are like to extend our choices. Has anyone used the adapted cabins on Balmoral and how well are they adapted? Thanks for any advice. Avril
GillCC Posted August 21, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 21, 2015 I was in an inside accessible cabin on Balmoral a couple of weeks ago. It was ok, doorway was wide as were the corridors. There is not a huge amount of space around the bed (we had it configured as a double and would prob be better as a twin. The bathroom was very spacious, shower had a slight lip but manageable . Fixed flip down shower seat and separate shower seat for sink. Large dressing room! Was bigger than bathroom lol. Hope this helps Gill
Sewso Posted August 21, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted August 21, 2015 Thanks Gill. Can I be nosy and ask what the cabin number was so I can find it on the deck plan? Apart from the slight lip around the shower, would I get my wheelchair in the bathroom? Thanks Avril
GillCC Posted September 7, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 7, 2015 Hi Avril - can't remember off hand but will look later - yes I think you would be fine with your wheelchair in the bathroom

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines Posted September 8, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 8, 2015 We are pleased to hear you are thinking of cruising with us once again. If you contact our Reservation Department they should be able to advise you as to the facilities and floor space in our wheelchair adapted cabins on board Balmoral. We also have some photos of these cabins on file that could also be sent should you require. Kind regards Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines
Sewso Posted September 10, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted September 10, 2015 Thank you Gill, that's very helpful. F.OCL, thanks for that information. At the moment we're waiting for the results of tests before we pursue a further booking. I was really sorry to have to cancel less than a week before sailing especially as we booked in April 2014 when the cruise was first made available.
