St John On Your Own 4 hour tour - enough time to go to Trunk Bay?

We are looking into options for our day on St. Thomas. We are on HAL and there are 5 other ships in port that day - BUSY! From what I've read it looks like we will dock at Crown Bay. We'd like to go to Trunk or Cinnamon Bay on St John for the day, problem is the HAL boating excursions to Trunk Bay direct have a minimum age requirement of 6 and our daughter is only 5. We can do the St John on Your Own tour, but it is only 4 hours and I'm wondering if that leaves us enough time to get to and from Trunk Bay.

 

I hesitate taking taxi/ferry on our own - ship leaves at 5pm that day and I understand Crown Bay is the farthest port from Red Hook ferry.

 

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - even non HAL tour options. I was on St John several years ago and absolutely loved it. Don't care as much about snorkeling as having time at the beach.

You might be able to get the 9am ferry if you dock at 8. The latest ferry you would want to take for a 4:30 all aboard is the 3 pm, but I would prefer to take the 2 pm.

 

There is also a 10 am ferry very near Havensight.

 

There are many independent boat tours. These folks do an island tour & then beach. They dock very near Havensight, so a quick trip back to the ship no matter where you dock.
