heathcharnock Posted September 16, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2015 Friends who recently disembarked Oriana reported that there were no Port Talks live inn the theatre on board. They were only available on the in cabin TV at indeterminate times. Is this now the norm or was there perhaps a personnel problem

dorsetlad Posted September 16, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 16, 2015 There were certainly post talks on Aurora when we were on in July. They were also recorded and shown on the cabin TV. I think they had a dedicated channel, and ran continuously. Brian
annieuk Posted September 16, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 16, 2015 On our last cruise there was a rolling programme of port talks, on more than one channel so there could be information about more than one stop. There weren't any live talks in the theatre.

Well they must have splashed out on our cruises in the past 2 years as we have always had port talks. And that is 6/7 cruises on 4 ships. They tend to be part of the excursion team the last one was Australian.
Mysticalmother Posted September 16, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 16, 2015 They have had "live" port talks on both cruises I have been on this year.
LondonTowner Posted September 16, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 16, 2015 We had port talks on our recent cruise. However, they were about Egypt and our cruise was going to Iceland!!! Needless to say we never bothered to attend any of them. I wonder who the bright spark was that booked that speaker,

There were port talks on the Iceland cruise (I know as I was on the same cruise!) about the stops in Iceland , Faroes, etc, but you didn't miss anything by not realising they were on as they were shockingly bad. The Egypt talks on the other hand were talks from one of the guest speakers, and were quite good (but not as good as the talks on the history of the electric guitar). memfris Posted September 19, 2015 #10 Share Posted September 19, 2015 (edited) On Oriana in August and there were live port talks and then these were shown on a loop on TV in the cabin Edited September 19, 2015 by memfris

It's just reading from a script and in many cases the presenter has not even been to the port in question. On the other hand a specialist lecturer knows the ports and areas well. It's some years since I have come across one of those on P&O though. David.
