2 Kids in One Room - Sail & Sign Question

Hello. My neighbor asked me a question about the Carnival Pride cruise they want to book, and I could not answer, so I said that I would ask CC and get back to her.

My neighbor plans on cruising on Pride with her husband, their daughter, and their daughter's friend. On previous cruises, they have had the daughter in a room with them, but now that she is getting older, and bringing a friend, they want to book them an interior room for the kids, and a balcony for them. They cannot do this without having an adult in one room, so they plan on booking the mom and daughter in the balcony, and then the father and friend in the interior, and then having the father and daughter switch room keys. They want to know if Guest Services can reprint them with the correct name. The kids want to go to Club O2, and they can't go if they don't use the correct room key (I believe). Also, the husband wants to be able to gamble and buy alcohol, but can't with a child's key, while the daughter will.

They are not interested in paying any extra money to change keys, so is there a way Guest Services can change them. If not, what can be done?

Thank you in advance! :D

That's an easy one. :D We have done this before.

Upon embarkation, the husband needs to bring his and his daughter's S&S cards to Guest Services. The mag stripes on the cards will be reprogrammed so that his card opens his door and his daughter's opens hers. Takes all of two minutes and there is no charge.

Thank you so much for the help, I'll let them know! They won't ask them why there's two kids in a room or give them hassle right?

Just a question. Has something changed? When our boys reached their teenage years we always booked both of them in their own cabin, which wasn't a problem as long as their cabin was next door or across the hall from us.

I believe they are just going through the website and not a PVP or agent. If you don't use a PVP and did that then I assume something changed. On the Royal boards I read that you can book two kids in a room when you do an agent or phone booking.

I guess that explains it. We've used our PVP to book our cruises for over ten years. It's no big deal to switch cabins either. We've done it that way several times also, with one of us booked in each room, in order to get the casino rates on both cabins.

The reason one parent had to be booked in each cabin is because of the friend. Had both girls been sisters, they could have been booked in their own cabin.

Nothing has changed about booking your own teens in a cabin across the hall.

But in this case the 4th passenger is a non-related 16 year old minor and must be booked with an adult. Once on board the ship they can room with whoever they choose and the S&S cards can be reprogrammed as needed.

That makes sense. Thanks.

I too think it'd be better for you and daughter to book together and Mom and BFF to book together. I believe you can also just get an extra key for each room with no name or credit card Info. You'd want to get an extra key for balcony and give to Mom. The extra inside cabin key is for daughter. Now DD can access the balcony if mom and dad aren't there and you have a key for the kids cabin if you need to check on them.

We did this with on Carnival Magic last March. I booked balcony with daughters fiancee and my wife booked with daughter and grandkids. We didn't do it because of age though. My wife and I both had Future Cruise Certificates to use and only one per cabin.

In our case, we didn't bother getting extra keys, everyone was of age (except grandkids) and after we switched rooms, my wife could check on grandkids and daughter could access my balcony with fiancee when we weren't there. Wife and I were usually together so her not having a key to our cabin was seldom a problem.

You can book them in there own room

  • Can be booked up to 3 staterooms away from their relative or guardian.

Traveling with a Minor

When traveling with a minor where one parent or both parents (or legal guardians) are not cruising, we strongly recommend bringing an original signed letter from the absent parent(s) (or legal guardians) authorizing the minor to travel with you. This will expedite processing by the Department of Homeland Security.

Just a suggestion. Book Dad with his own daughter. Book friend with the Mom. Sometime the most innocent of things can come back to bite you in the behind.

This. It's sad, but in the event this trip ever comes into question, you want to have your bases covered. An adult male should never be booked alone in a hotel room with an unrelated minor female if it can be avoided. I'm not saying there is anything untoward going on here, and I'm sure it was just a "one of us needs to be booked there, doesn't matter who" but to someone who is looking for an issue..
