At the above link it lists the Elation as having the new social media plan -- that is great since we will be cruising this ship.

I have one question -- can you buy one plan for the cabin? I know only one person can be on it at a time but figured it would work on several devices?

Anyone know for sure?

Thanks :)

The Hub app is only available on the Breeze right now. But the Social Media package is fleet wide. We just used it last week on the Ecstasy. Technically, you could get just 1 per cabin. You have to get on the ship's WIFI and log in w/ your folio & DOB. So, yes, you can use it on multiple devices, but only 1 can be logged in at a time. It's only $5 a day, and works w/ I-Message, so if you have I-Phones, each person can get it & text each other when you're not together.

So, does it work like your home wifi? You connect to the name and then just enter in numbers as the password? Or do you have to enter in a username and password?

Your device will connect to the wifi, but in order to gain access to the internet, you will have to enter your folio # and DoB (as others have mentioned) on a web page that is local to the ship. Some devices will load the page automatically. On other devices (like my android tablet), you will have to open a browser and try to load a page (I usually go to Google.com) and you will be redirected to the local login page. In order for others to use the internet service after you are done with it, you need to go back to that page and make sure you log out.

Several have mentioned sharing a plan and also texting.

How does that work? It seems that in order to communicate by text, both devices would need to be logged in at the same time, right?

Just off the Victory today and we purchased the social media package. Me and my son shared it. As mentioned above, only one of us could log on at a time.

Could you message through FB?

So if I understand correctly, we can keep smart phone on airplane mode, which blocks data, but can still connect to wi-fi and use camera. Is this how it worked?

We couldn't message each other because only one of us could be logged on at a time. But yes I messaged several other FB friends. Yes you put phone in airplane mode and connect to the Carnival wifi.

There is confusion because people are confusing the Carnival HUB app with the social media plan. They are completely different. The HUB app is only on the Breeze as of right now. We used the HUB while on the Breeze in May. It cost us $5 per device for entirety of cruise and that allowed us to text others on the ship. The Carnival Social Media Plan is $5/day or $25/week. This will get you access to social media sites ONLY (no email either). The social media plan can be shared between devices as long only one is logged on at a time. You log on using your folio # and birthdate. The social media plan is available on many ships.

Does the Social Media package only work on certain apps or will any texting app work, such as KIK or Hangouts?

Trying to find a way to keep in touch with my mother while we are cruising. She doesn't have a smart phone, only a tablet. Hoping we can just download an app for her to use on her tablet.
