Halloween on RCI Last Year? Cruise Critic Writer Seeks Your Impressions

Recommended Posts

I am writing about Halloween activities on several lines and would appreciate hearing from those who took a Halloween cruise with RCI in 2014.

I'm seeking a brief description of the festivities and your general impressions, nothing detailed.

Thank you in advance!

My group and I did Halloween last year on the adventure of the seas. The week also overlapped with a singles cruise. Royal had more festivities for kids (parades, etc). Adult activities were more scarce. Definitely felt like you could pretend it wasn't Halloween if you wanted. Regular evening festivities like dinner, photos, casino, shows all welcomed costumes on the actual day. All in all it was a fun cruise with just a little Halloween fun thrown in on top!

We were on the Splendour for a Med cruise last Halloween.

I was SEVERELY disappointed! I had called RCI to make sure that there would be Halloween festivities for the kids and I was assured that there would be. Their was nothing but a small parade for the younger children. I spent a lot of money in costumes for our entire family. We decorated our door and I even brought candy with us for all the kids.

Very few people were dressed up. There were no festivities for the kids. There was an adult themed costume party for adults which was very late- to late for me :)

I believe that the ship being in Europe had something to do with it.

This year we will be on the Grandeur for New Year I hope there is something more substantive for that holiday :)

We were on Exployer of The Seas last Halloween. My teenagers had a well of a time. They went out looking beautiful and came back looking like something out of a horror film!!

There was a disco and a parade. Lots of people were dressed up. It's was a really good night.

There were lots of Americans on our cruise and I think that helped. If there were lots of Brits (like myself) I don't think so many people would dress up!

I was on Freedom for Halloween last year. Lots of folks dressed up, lots of good costumes. The crew put out decorations around the ship, mostly on the Royal Promenade. They had a big costume party/parade on the R.P. later in the evening, it was packed with people. Many we're still in costume for the nightclub in the late evening.

I know they did a haunted house on Allure back in 2011, but I don't recall if there was one on Freedom last year.

We were on the same cruise. Agreed, that there was not much hoopla and there was not much dressing up. The decorations were cute, the adult costume party was waaaay too late on that itinerary to be attended by us, but others enjoyed it. I was also a little disappointed, I'd brought my costume, but the event was just too late for us.

We saw children, dressed up, on a "scavenger hunt" for candy. With help from Adventure Ocean staff, they had clues as to where to go on the ship to find their next "treat" station. I thought it was a pretty cute way to get the kids involved in the trick-or-treating. Sorry you missed it OP!

We were on Navigator last year for Halloween. It also fell on formal night, which was pretty funny. There was a parade with a LARGE turnout, and bunches of costumes. There was a Halloween themed show that evening which was rather nice, too. They had a costume contest and then a dance party afterwards. I was very sad that we only got second place in the costume contest. I don't know what they did for the younglings, since we don't have any.

We have been on two cruises during Halloween (last two years). Both cruise ships offered costume contests and taught cruisers the Michael Jackson Thriller dance! That was a lot of fun! It was performed on Halloween with passengers and staff.
