karmacats Posted September 21, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 21, 2015 If you are booked for Anthem in December and haven't paid final yet- check your reservation! Huge sale and price drops today. $799 pp balcony rates with free gratuities and $200 OBC this is the third or fourth time i've heard this (had some folks on my roll call and elsewhere post it, too), but when i called to ask about a price drop/OBC/gratuities for my dec anthem cruise, they told me i couldn't get it because my category was sold out. does that make any sense? Rare conandrob240 Posted September 21, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted September 21, 2015 Are you paid in full? If not, you can always cancel and re-book but yiu have to be willing to possibly switch categories
karmacats Posted September 21, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 21, 2015 Are you paid in full? If not, you can always cancel and re-book but yiu have to be willing to possibly switch categories Final payment is due next week, though i've already paid it. i'm not willing to risk losing my room, though - we have an OS next to our friends' OS, and ever since we booked a year and a half ago we've been planning on opening up the balcony dividers to form a mega-balcony . :D it sounds like the sale is being applied to existing bookings, though, so i can't imagine why i wouldn't be eligible - even if they couldn't figure out if there's a price drop since my category is sold out, they should at least be able to apply the OBC and free grats (and then i think that would reprice it, so they could see if there's been a drop...). I may call back tomorrow to see. i think the woman i talked to today was kind of clueless - she also told me another room on a different cruise did not have a price drop, and looking at the website it pretty clearly did. so, i think i will just try to talk to someone else. if it doesn't work or isn't possible, i'll live. :D but it doesn't hurt to try. If you're not yet in penalty, the sale is good for existing bookings at the current price. If the current rate is higher, you have to pay the additional amount and if there is no availability in your category then you would have to switch to an available category in order to take advantage. SnappyNappi Posted September 21, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 21, 2015 The per person price for our December Anthem cruise this year (NYE Bahamas Cruise) has gone up so much that even with any kind of discounting or sale, it is still much more to change the reservation. Oh well... I guess I am happy that I booked for us before pricing went up so high on our holiday cruise. Happy Cruising!
njmomof2 Posted September 21, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 21, 2015 (edited) It's only through the December 19th cruise, so the NYE cruise is not included. Final for 12/19 was yesterday; I could see the prices for that cruise yesterday and the sale is balcony guarantee $999 + $100 OBC/pp. I booked and then repriced previously so I'm in a D6 at $1199/pp with my diamond discount (and mom has the D+ discount). Because I need 2 rooms next to each other (my kids are in the other) I can't do the guarantee because there is no "guarantee" that they'll put us next to each other. My price is still below the current rate, even with the prepaid gratuities and additional OBC, so there was no moving for me. The only thing I could have done was move to a DO (there was one pair of adjoining cabins). I would have saved $24/pp for the cabin, then gotten the gratuities prepaid. But the cabins are well aft, and it's hard for mom to walk that far over and over each day. So we made the decision to stay put. Because final has now passed, there won't be any reductions. However, if someone is booked in a lower category, and wants to pay a bit more, they might be able to upgrade. SnappyNappi Posted September 21, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 21, 2015 (edited) BTW... this particular sale only applies to departures between November 10 and December 19th - so I guess I was out of the game anyway with a departure on December 27th. :) Edited September 21, 2015 by SnappyNappi

nyc12345 Posted September 21, 2015 #10 Share Posted September 21, 2015 I thought RCCL was done with last minute price reduction. :D:D If they didn't price these so high to begin with, they don't need to fire sale it now to fill the ship. Good job RCCL on your pricing tactic. Too bad I can't take advantage of this offer with all my vacation days used up for other cruises. :(
omarchs Posted September 23, 2015 #11 Share Posted September 23, 2015 We saw this sale too, but as stated it doesn't include the NYE voyage which we have booked. We have final payment in a few days, but there still seem to be a large number of rooms left in our category so I have been hoping the price would drop before final payment. They had dropped prices substantially recently, but they are still a few hundred more than our rate. They will annoy a lot of people who paid a premium for this voyage when they eventually discount it to fill up the ship like the other dates in November and December. That is unless they follow their no last minute discounting policy on this particular cruise.
Rare conandrob240 Posted September 23, 2015 Author #12 Share Posted September 23, 2015 These last minute discounts are a terrible policy. Customers should be protected. RCCL is fighting for NCL market share in the NYC market and NCL is quite a bit more generous with their policies- they will almost always offer OBC- not for the full amount but atrial. RCCL is firm in offering nothing. Will make me definitely lean more towards NCL for future cruises if all else is about equal.
Fortypluscruiser Posted September 23, 2015 #13 Share Posted September 23, 2015 NCL is quite a bit more generous with their policies- they will almost always offer OBC- This is not their policy at all. There are always exceptions to be found, but both company's policies are the same.

NYcruzzer Posted October 9, 2015 #18 Share Posted October 9, 2015 This is not their policy at all. There are always exceptions to be found, but both company's policies are the same. Not true. In most cases NCL will offer to "upgrade" you to a higher category. You have to fight real hard for OBC. If they do grant OBC it's usually 25% of the difference in rate.
