Presbycruiser Posted September 29, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 29, 2015 I'll cruising on the Gem out of NYC over Thanksgiving ... three sea days followed by four port days ... San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maarten and Tortola. My question for anyone who has been to these ports: what's the situation with free Wi-Fi? I am weighing whether to keep the free internet perk I have through my TA or switch it for something else.
LrgPizza Posted September 29, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2015 You'll find loads of places with free wifi. Google the destination and "free wifi", and your question will be answered over and over again.
watchdiva Posted September 29, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 29, 2015 Starbucks in any of the ports should have free wifi. St. Thomas there is a coffee shop on the second level of a strip mall that has wifi if you buy a drink.
LrgPizza Posted September 29, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 29, 2015 For what it's worth, you will have free data & texting on St. Thomas and San Juan if you have AT&T or Verizon. Not sure about other cell providers.
Bonobochick Posted September 29, 2015 #5 Share Posted September 29, 2015 Sprint service works in St.Thomas/St. John and San Juan as I discovered last year. Philipsburg has restaurants along Front Street & Back Street that have WiFi with purchase (I usually pop by The Hard Rock Cafe for a drink & WiFi use). I don't recall as easy access to WiFi in Marigot. Tortola has a similar set up with restaurants that have WiFi with purchase.
Presbycruiser Posted September 29, 2015 Author #6 Share Posted September 29, 2015 Thanks for everyone's responses ... I should have thought of the Google option. :o
Volunton Posted September 29, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 29, 2015 Every port has an Internet place where ship employees get a better deal than us average public types. I typically "SPLURGE" and pay $5-$8/hour to check e-mail and surf the Internet. If you get a coffee or drink with free wifi, that's a pretty good deal, unless the drink costs $10-12. mcarbone2001 Posted September 29, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 29, 2015 We have traveled to differents ports.. We ask our room steward or our waiter where the free wifi is at the pier. They all know, thats how they connect with their familes.
