Are water shoes needed at Sapphire Beach?

Thanks

It depends. You can see the beach using this web cam link

http://www.sapphireinthesun.com/

The link at the top of the page shows a drone video. There is a sandy portion of the beach & also rocks and a coral reef. The sand can get very warm and there are sea urchins in some areas. If you have them, wear them.

Sapphire Beach changes, often very quickly, and sometimes there is an abundance of sandy areas for easy entrance and sometimes the sand moves down the beach and exposes some rocky areas. I am always able to find a sandy entrance but some may prefer water shoes.

The concern I have with water shoes is people walking on the coral reef. There are signs up and I regularly see cruise ship passengers hang towels on the sign and proceed to walk on and kill the coral. So if you wear water shoes please stand on sand not rock or coral.

beautifulbill. Thanks for the info. We have been to Sapphire every visit to St Thomas, but just couldn't remember wearing water shoes. I don't recall wearing them and others in our party said we did. I actually don't like to wear them.

So I came to the experts on CC.

Thanks
