Delo bar refurbishment

Just back from the dream and had a great time as usual but I was really sad to hear that ( in my opinion) Thomsons are going to ruin the Delo bar.

We and like minded others have always enjoyed the small piano bar where you can enjoy the singer/ pianist in a proper jazz type bar setting but not after November. They are removing the wall between the Delo and the Waters Edge

To make it into one large bar which will spoil the whole ambiance of the bar (again in my humble opinion) and also that of some of the onboard entertainers.

Please reconsider Thomsons - leave the Delo bar alone!

sounds like they are making it imilar to hemingways on celeb ... delo is next to the casino (i hope they expand the casino a bit too)

 

hemingways is a popular venue on celeb (by all accounts)

 

there is a nice little quiet deck outside the waters edge (v popular with the late nighters):cool:

Not the place I want to be I'm afraid. I like the atmosphere of the Delo bar and the music. Just don't want another big lounge type bar. They already have the Medusa and the smaller Tides. The Delo should be left to the people who just like the music and the small bar vibe

Sad news - Delo has always been our favourite bar; we love the pianists in there and it is one place that you can generally guarantee to get a seat and be served quickly. Re-think please Thomson.

we spend time in there (evening cocktails) but its mostly empty? delo is only used when the pianist is on and the waters edge is very under used (often closed)

 

that area has acess to the outside deck (i have always said that they should make that into an outside cafe/bar style area) .... its a nice place to sit in the evenings .... over the wake

 

a hemingways style bar with the casino right there would be more popular (better used) imo

 

but what about the kids club? they cant open that space up fully? and they cant have the kids club running in and out of a bar and casino?

Yes but the pianist does around 4 sets per evening and it's busy every night. Certainly on all the cruises we've been on it's well used in the evening. I Understand that not everyone feels the same, personally I hate the Medusa lounge but it's busy every evening so lots of people enjoy it there.

yes its busy when the pianist is on people cant get a seat and can be seen standing in the corridor at the back all the while the waters edge is empty?

 

if they made delo into a bigger hemingways style bar they would still have the pianist... they do on celeb and there would be more space

Do you know I had to look on the deck plans for the Delo Bar :o

 

In 3 trips on the Dream we have never used it. We walked up there a few times and DH has said brrrrr - too cold. Why do they have the aircon so cold? :rolleyes:

Must agree Hemmingways appears to be being used more now than in the past with either just Keith on piano or Benjamin on guitar just nice and relaxing or when they come together for more disco style into the early hours and together with the speciality performances its a great place to be. I feel Thomson are just trying to evolve with the changes as non of this work will bring them any more revenue. I originally didn't approve of the coffee port but I think we spent more time in their than listening to the violinist. You are also right about the outside space it could be a lovely place to relax in the evening.:)

yes they are evolving with the other cruise lines... ventura has their casino near their 'pub like' (great for socialising) bar, imo i think that works well on ventura:cool:

I liked the Delo bar when we were on Dream, but Waters Edge was I thought, for the disco on a night. The only time I saw it used was to keep hand luggage safe on departure day though. I did explore the outside deck, and agree it is a good spot at the back. We liked the back of our deck 6 and often sat out there before turning in for the night. We had a great cabin nearly under waters edge in Jan 14 and Jan 15 and never had any noise problems which I thought was brilliant.

They do have a bar to socialise both in the Delo and also the larger Tides bar, the Delo is more about the music I think but as I said before its personal choice. The people in the Delo bar when we were told about the changes were unhappy about it but that's us Delo diehards I guess

It's cold in the waters edge but always warm in the Delo bar which was another reason to choose that bar. I went to reception again this time to complain about the temperature in Tides bar. You almost need a coat on as its sooo chilly.

I like the Delo bar but it is too small if anyone good is playing.

 

I do think the Waters Edge is a waste of space at the moment though. When we did the return TA the weather wasn't good enough to sit outside on an evening so there were no seats anywhere inside but no one had the sense to open this up, and we had TWO cruise directors.
