shot2bits Posted March 20, 2016 Author #84 Share Posted March 20, 2016 Not meaning to boost this thread, but I paid our final balance yesterday, so we are going! Nearly cancelled though. Getting into the mind set of looking forward to a Thomson cruise! Hope there will be loads of people like our previous cruises - friendly and fun! Also, it's our golden wedding anniversary. cariad1000 Posted April 11, 2016 #86 Share Posted April 11, 2016 First time Thomson cruiser here also. Loved Splendour with RCI so have taken a chance and booked Discovery for the caribbean on 9th April 2017. We've had grand suites on Royal, but the perks don't seem very good with Thomson so we've booked an aft junior suite as the services seem just the same and an awful lot cheaper than the grand suites. I sounds great not to have to worry about collecting your cases from the airport and having them taken direct to the cabin. A bit nervous about sailing with a new cruise line but lots of you on here seem to love Thomson so am hoping we will too.

I have just asked on the RC board if there are any JS that should be avoided because of obstructed view, noise etc. You wouldn't happen to know would you? cariad1000 Posted April 12, 2016 #88 Share Posted April 12, 2016 Hi Shottobits, Thanks for the welcome. All the Junior Suites are on Deck 8 at the moment so nothing to obstruct the view from any of them. I hope Thomson don't change the layout but it may be worth checking. The aft junior suites have larger balconies than the others but all are well positioned. HTH

They will downsize the casino and remove the separate diamond/concierge lounges plus change venue names and 'brand' the ship.

davecttr Posted June 8, 2016 #98 Share Posted June 8, 2016 I am travelling alone on 22nd. October, flying from Manchester to Palma.I have never had a holiday with Thompson before,so I am a little apprehensive as every travel company is different. No need to be apprehensive. Thomson normally handle the flights/ transfers and check in well. They have plenty of practice! When the flight gets to Palma you collect your case from the luggage claim. If I remember rightly luggage claim is a long way from the arrival gate. Then you seek out the Thomson staff either in or outside departures. You should get advice on the plane about this. At this stage you might get your cabin number labels, stick 'em on the case and get it loaded onto the coach. then off you go :) Thomson are pretty good for solo cruisers. Discovery appears to have the single cabins in nice quiet locations well away from the engines. They should have a social hostess or maybe a host who looks after solo cruisers. There should be coffee get togethers etc and maybe even hosted meals. I have had hosted breakfast, lunches and dinner on previous cruises.
