Mariner of the Seas....family boat??

About to head off on our first cruise. We're in our mid-50s, and have traveled the world, just not by ship. Have been recently informed that we were silly to book a b2b on the Mariner (RCCL) of the Seas because it is a known "family" ship with lots of young kids aboard. We didn't realize this. Not that we don't like kids - we do - we have kids too, albeit grown, but would rather avoid lots of loud, running, cavorting children if possible. Anyone have a comment on this ship being billed as child friendly?

Thanks for your comments.:p

You will love the Mariner!! My DH and I are both in your age group and have sailed on her 3 times already, and have another booked for May of 2006. While there are plenty of things for the young people to do, there are just as many adult activities that you will enjoy. The shows are wonderful, as well as the casino and there are enough bars and venues that you will never be bored. We have sailed in May and October and while there were children on board we were not bothered by any of them. If you have any specific questions about the ship or the ports I will be happy to answer them for you.

There are several things that you should not miss, the ice show, quest and the love and marriage show.

I'll echo what the other poster said, You'll LOVE the Mariner, the Voyager class ships have everything you could want and are a lot of fun for "kids of all ages". They're huge, but never seem crowded, and definitely do NOT miss QUEST! ;) The ice show is great as well, and the Love & Marriage game is hilarious. If you like steak Chops is great, and well worth the extra fee. You'll have a GREAT time!

The Mariner is an AWESOME ship! She is huge with plenty of space. The childrens programs are wonderful and we never were around kids if we chose not to be. You are going to have a great time. They have a pool/hot tub area that is adults only. Don't worry....go and enjoy !!!!
