Is the chef's table considered a speciality restaurant?

Sort-of. More of a specialty-dinner/event.

 

Only on Vista will it be an actual dining venue. It is offered through the Steakhouse on ships that have them (or through the main dining staff on ships that don't). The actual dinner is then held in either an area in the galley or a small separate dining room nearby.

 

They also only have so many slots for the Chef's Table per cruise, so you need to book it as soon as you board.

Or book in advance, I just booked space for 6 on my March cruise and space for three on my August cruise.

They will need your booking number, cabin number and the names of those who are coming. They make place cards for the table with names and prepare a souvenir menu for each person as well as take a picture of the group with the chef and give you a copy of it at the end of the dinner.

Seeing as it is held in either the galley, or the Library, I wouldn't call it a specialty restaurant.

 

What I would call it is a special dining event or special dining experience

We've done it twice. While it was very good, and very informative I think we'll wait until new menus or give it a few years before we book it again.

 

It is an experience and worth the money to us, and I would recommend it to anyone who has not done it before.
